Super Bowl 59 Halftime Show Prop Pick #1: Last Song – TV Off (+300)
For as much as I love the atmospheric All the Stars, it’s not the song that will close out the Super Bowl halftime set. Considering that it opens with SZA singing the hook, it’s got the perfect makings for a mid-set feel good track that brings a collaborator on stage. That’s likely why SZA isn’t getting odds for “Celebrity Guest to Appear on Stage.”
Of course, you could also go with Not Like Us, the feud-demolishing coffin nail that’s a five-minute embodiment of the “He’s Already Dead!” meme from The Simpsons. It may have just won five Grammys and the crowd would unquestionably give itself up to the chorus, but just being at the Super Bowl is already a reminder that “Kendrick Won.”
No, I’m leaning into TV Off, and not just because of the irony that it will lead straight into a commercial break. It’s a bouncy, orchestral head-bopping track that builds to a wild lyrical delivery before mellowing into a repetitive outro. It makes sense to end a set at the Super Bowl by getting crazy, scary, spooky, and hilarious. MUSTAAAAAAAARRRD!
Celebrity Guests to Appear on Stage: Travis Scott (+250)
I was originally going with Lil Wayne, given that Super Bowl LIX is taking place in his hometown of New Orleans, but he’s since been taken off the odds table after confirming his absence from the big game.
Baby Keem at +110 is a solid choice, largely because I get the feeling that family ties will be on the set list. The same can be said for Future (+184) and Metro Boomin (+184), for the track Like That.
If you want something spicy with extra long odds, there’s always the possibility that U2 (+1500) will show up for a cameo on XXX. It’s the big game, so why not go for a big pull, right?
That’s partly why I’m going with Travis Scott at +250. Him and Kendrick can start into another Black Panther song like Big Shot before throwing it way back with Goosebumps. Plus, Houston’s not that far from New Orleans, right?
