Baker & Evans Continue Dominance

A sublime goal-line fade from Baker Mayfield gave Mike Evans his first touchdown of the season in Week 1. The duo looks set to build upon their first season together and decimate defenses once again in 2024. Keep in mind, Mayfield tossed for 349 yards versus the Lions in last year’s Divisional Round contest, so he’s no stranger to carving apart this defense.

On the other side of the football, Todd Bowles’ team dominated for long stretches against the Commanders, allowing less that 300 total yards. Rookie Washington quarterback Jayden Daniels ran for 88 yards out of necessity to keep the offense moving. Bowles’ aggressive defensive scheme gave the rookie problems. Expect to see a number of exotic blitz looks to try and confuse Jared Goff on Sunday.

Bettors need to be aware before visiting NFL betting apps, the Buccaneers are 7-3 SU in their last 10 games in Detroit.

Lions Look to Build Momentum

Sportsbooks have instilled the Lions are surefire contenders this season, as Dan Campbell’s squad find themselves with the third-shortest odds +550 to win the NFC.

However, Detroit struggled for long stretches against a game Los Angeles Rams team last week, allowing nearly 400 total yards and barely squeaking away with the win in overtime. While Brad Holmes added a number of contributors to their defense in the off-season, questions remain. Detroit’s young defensive backfield will be tested against the likes of Evans and Chris Godwin.

Offensively, the Lions remain one of the NFL’s most efficient units. Detroit generated 363 total yards and converted on 6-of-13 third downs last week. Offensive coordinator Ben Johnson remaining in Detroit has given his players confidence.

That’s most apparent in the play of former first-round pick Jameson Williams, who broke out in Week 1 with five catches for 121 yards and a touchdown. The former Alabama speedster should have plenty of room this season, as defenses hone in on the ever-present threat of Amon-Ra St. Brown and tight end Sam LaPorta.

Take into account, the Lions went 6-2 SU in their eight games at Ford Field last season.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs Detroit Lions Predictions & Picks

  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers +7.5 (-115) at FanDuel
  • Rachaad White over 25.5 receiving yards (-113) at FanDuel

Despite winning three straight NFC South titles, the Buccaneers are heavy underdogs everywhere you look. But, with Evans and a healthy Chris Godwin, they have one of the top receiving duos in the NFC. Tristan Wirfs is an elite left tackle, and the Bucs aggressive defense will do enough to keep them in this contest. Back the Bucs to cover the 7.5-point spread on Sunday.

The Lions allowed average of just 60 rushing yards to running backs on 3.5 yards per carry last season. They held Rams running back Kyren Williams to 50 yards on a whopping 2.8 yards per carry on Sunday night. However, they also surrendered over 30 receiving yards per contest to opposing backs in 2023.

Bucs running back Rachaad White remains one of the top receiving threats out of the backfield in the NFL.  If last week was any indication, Tampa Bay plans on getting him heavily involved in the passing attack. White ran 23 routes last week and hauled in all six of his targets for 75 yards. Expect to see a ton of #1 again in Detroit.

In Week 2 of the NFL season, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will face off against the Detroit Lions in what promises to be an exciting matchup. Both teams are coming off of losses in their season openers and will be looking to bounce back with a win.

The Buccaneers, led by future Hall of Famer Tom Brady, had a tough start to their season with a loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Despite Brady throwing for over 300 yards and four touchdowns, the Buccaneers defense struggled to contain the Cowboys offense. However, with a talented roster that includes star wide receivers Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, as well as a solid defense led by linebacker Devin White, the Buccaneers are still considered one of the top teams in the league.

On the other side, the Lions are coming off a disappointing loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Quarterback Jared Goff had a decent game, throwing for over 300 yards and three touchdowns, but the Lions defense struggled to stop the 49ers offense. The Lions will need to tighten up their defense if they want to have a chance against the high-powered Buccaneers offense.

In terms of predictions, the Buccaneers are favored to win this matchup. With Brady at the helm and a strong supporting cast, the Buccaneers offense should be able to put up points against the Lions defense. However, the Lions have shown that they can score points as well, so this game could turn into a shootout.

As for picks, taking the Buccaneers to win straight up seems like a safe bet. However, if you’re looking for a more risky pick, taking the over on the total points scored in the game could pay off given the offensive firepower of both teams.

In terms of targeted props, keep an eye on Mike Evans and Chris Godwin in the passing game for the Buccaneers. Both receivers have the ability to make big plays down the field and could have a big game against the Lions secondary. On the Lions side, look for running back D’Andre Swift to have a big game both on the ground and through the air.

Overall, this matchup between the Buccaneers and Lions promises to be an exciting one with plenty of offensive fireworks. Keep an eye on key players and matchups throughout the game to see who comes out on top in this Week 2 showdown.
