Wednesday’s marquee NHL matchup features a pair of Western Conference contenders as the surging St. Louis Blues (43-29-7) visit the shorthanded Edmonton Oilers (44-28-5).
The betting market has seen a notable shift toward St. Louis, with the Blues going from +120 underdogs to +105 as of Wednesday afternoon. Edmonton is now just a slight -115 home favorite in a game with huge playoff implications.
The puck drops at 10:00 pm ET from Rogers Place in Edmonton, with TNT carrying the national TV broadcast.
Blues vs Oilers Prediction
My prediction is that the red-hot Blues pick up a critical road win over the depleted Oilers. St. Louis has been the NHL’s best team over the past month, ripping off a franchise-record 12 straight victories before Monday’s OT loss in Winnipeg. They currently hold the West’s top Wild Card spot and can clinch a playoff berth with a win.
The biggest factor working in the Blues’ favor is Edmonton’s staggering injury list. The Oilers will likely be without superstars Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, as well as key contributors like Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Evander Kane, Mattias Ekholm, and starting goalie Stuart Skinner. That’s a tremendous amount of talent on the shelf.
Edmonton’s offense has struggled mightily without McDavid and Draisaitl, mustering just 12 total goals over their last 6 outings. The power play, normally a huge strength, has failed to convert on its last 6 attempts. Scoring chances will be hard to come by against a locked-in Blues defense allowing only 1.92 goals per game since March 15th.
Jordan Binnington vs Calvin Pickard Stats
The Blues will likely go with Jordan Binnington in net, who is playing some of his best hockey of the season. Binnington has won 7 straight starts, allowing only 13 total goals in that span. He’s surrendered more than 3 goals just twice since mid-March. The fiery competitor tends to elevate his game against top teams like the Oilers.
While the Oilers won both previous meetings this year, those games came against a much different Blues team with key players out of the lineup. St. Louis is now mostly healthy and playing its best hockey at the right time. With Edmonton reeling and the Blues surging, I’m backing the road underdog on the moneyline.
St. Louis Blues vs Edmonton Oilers Odds
The Blues are currently +105 moneyline underdogs at Bet365, with the Oilers coming back at -115. The over/under is set at 5.5 goals, with -110 juice on both sides.
Edmonton is +210 to cover the -1.5 puck line, while St. Louis is heavily favored at -260 to keep the game within a goal.

Blues vs Oilers Player Props
NHL Player Prop odds as of April 9 at Bet365 Sportsbook.
- Robert Thomas 2+ Points (+220 at DraftKings)
Over in the player props market, I’m betting on another big game from the scorching hot Robert Thomas. The Blues’ top-line center is riding a 9-game point streak, racking up a whopping 18 points in his last 8 contests. He has multiple points in 6 of those 8. I love the value we’re getting at +220 for a 2+ point outing tonight.
- Evan Bouchard Over 0.5 Points (-160 at Bet365)
On the Oilers side, I’m targeting Evan Bouchard to record at least a point. The dynamic young defenseman has taken on a huge role with Edmonton ravaged by injuries. He just recorded his 50th assist and has a team-leading 9 points in 8 games without McDavid. Bouchard quarterbacks the top power-play unit and should have ample opportunities to hit the score sheet.
The Oilers are very thin on the blue line with Ekholm out, forcing Bouchard into heavy minutes in all situations. He’s a solid value at -160 to notch at least one point tonight. But the Blues’ team success is the main reason I’m backing St. Louis getting this much respect from sharp bettors.
Wednesday night hockey will feature an exciting matchup between the St. Louis Blues and the Edmonton Oilers. Both teams are coming off strong performances in their previous games and will be looking to continue their winning streaks.
The Blues have been on a hot streak lately, winning four of their last five games. They are currently sitting in third place in the Central Division with a record of 12-8-2. The Oilers, on the other hand, have been struggling as of late, losing three of their last five games. They currently sit in fifth place in the Pacific Division with a record of 11-8-0.
In terms of injuries, the Blues will be without defenseman Colton Parayko, who is out with an upper-body injury. This will be a big blow to the Blues’ defense, as Parayko is a key player for them. The Oilers, on the other hand, will be without defenseman Duncan Keith, who is out with a lower-body injury. Keith’s absence will also be felt on the Oilers’ blue line.
In terms of player props, look for Blues forward Vladimir Tarasenko to have a big game. Tarasenko has been on fire recently, scoring seven goals in his last five games. He will be a key player for the Blues in this matchup. On the Oilers’ side, look for Connor McDavid to continue his dominant play. McDavid leads the league in points with 31 and will be a force to be reckoned with on Wednesday night.
In terms of odds, the Blues are currently favored to win this matchup with odds of -130, while the Oilers are underdogs with odds of +110. This could be a close game, but the Blues have been playing well as of late and have the edge in this matchup.
Overall, Wednesday night’s game between the Blues and Oilers promises to be an exciting matchup. With key players on both teams looking to make an impact, it will be interesting to see who comes out on top. Keep an eye out for Tarasenko and McDavid to lead their respective teams to victory in what should be a thrilling game of hockey.
