Prop Picks #1: Travis Hunter Receiving Yards

We’re looking to Colorado’s top receiving target for our first player prop bet recommendation Thursday. With ESPN’s national spotlight on this game, we expect Travis Hunter to remind the college football world why he’s a projected top 2025 NFL Draft Pick.

Hunter had 70+ receiving yards in seven of the nine games he played last season, and his prop for Thursday is set at 70.5. He went over 100 yards three times, including in Colorado’s season opener against TCU.

Colorado’s run game and defense are concerns this season, meaning we expect a healthy amount of scoring Thursday. Buffs QB Sheduer Sanders is operating behind an improved offensive line and should have more time to find Hunter downfield.

As one of the most dynamic players in college football, the 6’1″ 185 lb Hunter will present a mismatch for North Dakota State’s FCS-level secondary. The Bison ranked 81st of 123 FCS teams in passing yards per game last season 233.8) — they are more adept at stopping the run.

Some of the top receivers in FCS, including South Dakota’s Carter Bell and North Dakota’s Braylond Henderson, posted big numbers against the NDSU secondary. Hunter is a superior talent to these FCS wideouts and should kick off his 2024 Heisman campaign in style on Thursday.

  • Pick: Travis Hunter Over 73.5 Receiving Yards (-115 at Bet365)

Prop Picks #2: Cam Miller Rushing Yards

While we like the CU passing game to put up points Thursday, we project that NDSU will stay within the spread on the strength of their run game. To compliment my NDSU spread cover prediction, I’m targeting NDSU QB Cam Miller’s rushing yards in the props market.

Miller was the second-leading rusher for the Bison last season, with 629 yards on the ground. His athleticism was on display, with 5.1 yards per carry and 13 trips to paydirt. I don’t trust Colorado’s defense to stop him from running wild in Boulder.

The Buffaloes’ defense was simply miserable last season. They allowed 38.6 points per game, which ranked 129th out of 131 FBS teams. CU also surrendered 234.5 rushing yards per contest, 124th in the nation. While they should be improved in 2024, there will be some growing pains early in the season.

The Bison offense, meanwhile, is built around a powerful rushing attack. They averaged 273.6 yards per game on the ground last year, fourth-most in the FCS. I’m not expecting many big passing plays unless they fall significantly behind in the game.

As the triggerman for that offense, Miller will have ample opportunities to use his legs, especially if NDSU is able to control the clock and wear down the Colorado defense as the game progresses. Seven quarterbacks Colorado faced last year rushed for 30+ yards against them.

  • Pick: Cam Miller 30+ Rushing Yards

(Note: Many sportsbooks don’t have this prop available at time of writing. If that’s the case for you, take Miller to score a TD at +185 instead)

The Colorado vs NDSU touchdown scorer props show CU’s Travis Hunter with the best odds to get into the endzone at -120, which is 60% implied probability.

I have already touched on Cam Miller above, and he’s certainly worth a look at to get into the endzone at +185 odds. His 13 rushing TDs tied Easton Stick’s single-season record for a Bison QB. However, there’s another touchdown prop with more value on Thursday.

Joe Stoffel TD Anytime TD

I like the value on North Dakota State’s No. 1 tight end, Joe Stoffel, to find the endzone Thursday. The 6’4″, 245 lbs senior led the Bison with six receiving touchdowns last season, with four of those scores coming in the red zone.

Stoffel’s large frame makes him a matchup nightmare inside the 20-year line, as exemplified in the 2023 FCS semifinals against South Dakota when Stoffel hauled in a 4-yard TD pass from Cam Miller. The veteran lands a favorable matchup Thursday against CU’s miserable red zone defense.

Opponents scored touchdowns on 71.4% of their red zone trips against the Buffs, the 3rd-worst mark in the FBS. With an undersized linebacking corps and young safeties, the Buffs will have trouble matching up with the physical Stoffel near the goal line.

In his fifth year with the team, Stoffel is one of the most experienced players on the Bison and has built a great repertoire with QB Miller. If Colorado sells out to stop the run when NDSU gets near the end zone, it could leave Stoffel in favorable one-on-one matchups against smaller defensive backs.

As the Colorado Buffaloes prepare to take on the North Dakota State Bison in a highly anticipated Thursday night college football matchup, fans and bettors alike are eagerly looking for ways to get in on the action. One popular way to do so is through player prop bets, which allow bettors to wager on specific individual player performances rather than just the outcome of the game.

Here are some top player prop bets to consider for the Colorado vs NDSU game:

1. Total passing yards for Colorado quarterback Brendon Lewis: Lewis has shown flashes of potential in his young career, and he will be facing a tough NDSU defense. The over/under for his passing yards could be set at around 200 yards, so bettors will have to decide whether they think he will exceed or fall short of that mark.

2. Total rushing yards for NDSU running back Dominic Gonnella: Gonnella is a key player for the Bison offense, and his ability to run the ball effectively could be crucial in this game. The over/under for his rushing yards could be set at around 100 yards, so bettors will have to decide whether they think he will have a big game on the ground.

3. Total receiving yards for Colorado wide receiver Dimitri Stanley: Stanley is a reliable target for Lewis in the passing game, and he could be in line for a big game against the NDSU secondary. The over/under for his receiving yards could be set at around 75 yards, so bettors will have to decide whether they think he will have a productive night catching passes.

4. Total tackles for NDSU linebacker Jackson Hankey: Hankey is a tackling machine for the Bison defense, and he will be looking to make an impact against the Colorado offense. The over/under for his total tackles could be set at around 10, so bettors will have to decide whether they think he will be able to reach that mark.

5. Total sacks for Colorado defensive end Terrance Lang: Lang is a disruptive force on the Buffaloes defensive line, and he will be looking to get after the NDSU quarterback all game long. The over/under for his total sacks could be set at around 1.5, so bettors will have to decide whether they think he will be able to bring down the quarterback multiple times.

These are just a few of the player prop bets that could be available for the Colorado vs NDSU game. Bettors should do their research and consider factors such as recent performance, matchups, and injuries before placing their bets. With so many exciting players on both teams, there are sure to be plenty of opportunities to cash in on some winning wagers during this Thursday night showdown.
