Sun Devils Betting Analysis

The Sun Devils are off to a surprising 2-0 start under second-year head coach Kenny Dillingham. Arizona State dominated Wyoming 48-7 in Week 1 before dethroning Mississippi State 30-23 in Week 2. ASU has covered the spread in both games.

Arizona State’s offense has been powered by a strong rushing attack led by RB Cam Skattebo. The workhorse back has 311 rushing yards on 44 carries (7.1 YPC) and 1 TD through two games. He had a monster performance against Mississippi State with 262 yards on 33 carries.

QB Sam Leavitt, a Michigan State transfer, has been solid, if unspectacular, so far. He’s completed 57.1% of his passes for 327 yards, 2 TDs, and 0 INTs. Leavitt has also added 115 rushing yards and 2 TDs on the ground.

The Sun Devils’ defense has allowed just 15.0 PPG (48th nationally) and forced four turnovers (18th) in two games. DL Clayton Smith (3 tackles, 1 TFL, 1 sack), DL Elijah O’Neal (2 tackles, 2 TFL, 2 sacks), and LB Keyshaun Elliott (1 tackle, 1 TFL, 1 sack, 1 INT) have been playmakers.

Texas State Betting Analysis

The Bobcats have been a bit inconsistent to start the year but appear on the right track. Texas State narrowly beat FCS Lamar 34-27 in Week 1 before blowing out UTSA 49-10 in Week 2. The Bobcats are 1-1 ATS and 1-1 to the over/under so far.

Fifth-year starting QB Jordan McCloud, the reigning Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Year, leads a high-powered Bobcats offense. McCloud has thrown for 547 yards, 5 TDs, and 2 INTs on 68.4% passing. He’s added 39 rushing yards and 2 TDs.

Texas State uses a run-and-gun offensive style under head coach G.J. Kinne and OC Mack Leftwich. RB Ismail Mahdi has rushed for 204 yards (5.4 YPC) and 2 TDs in two games. Texas State is ranked 38th in plays per minute and will look to keep things moving quickly.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Bobcats are allowing 18.5 points per contest (64th) and 244.5 passing yards per game (100th). DL Tunmise Adeleye has 1.5 sacks, 1 TFL, and three tackles. DB Jordan Polk has eight tackles and 1 TFL.

Arizona State vs Texas State Prediction

This game is going to come down to which team can implement their style the best. ASU has significantly slowed down their game tempo, ranking 123rd in pace this season compared to Texas State’s up-tempo style ranked in the top 25.

The Sun Devils will look to control the clock with their ground game, which means Cam Skattebo could be in for another big game against a suspect Texas State run defense. However, the Bobcats’ offense is explosive and will test an ASU defense that hasn’t faced a passing attack like this yet.

I’m looking at the total in this game for my best Thursday night college football bet. It’s already climbed up one point, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s in the 60s by kickoff. The over has cashed in five of Arizona State’s last seven games and in four of Texas State’s last five.

With Texas State at home and running a fast-paced offense, look for the Sun Devils to rely a bit more on the passing game to keep up. Star WR Jordan Tyson has been the focal point of the passing game, with a 32.5% target share, and I’m expecting him to play a big role in this score getting over the number.

On Thursday, September 12th, college football fans will be treated to an exciting matchup between the Arizona State Sun Devils and the Texas State Bobcats. Both teams will be looking to start their season off on the right foot with a win in this non-conference showdown.

Arizona State comes into this game as the favorite, boasting a talented roster and high expectations for the season. Head coach Herm Edwards will be looking to build off of last year’s 7-6 record and lead his team to a successful campaign in 2019. The Sun Devils have a potent offense led by quarterback Jayden Daniels, who will be looking to make a statement in his freshman season.

On the other side of the field, Texas State will be looking to play spoiler and pull off an upset on their home turf. The Bobcats are coming off of a disappointing 3-9 season and will be looking to turn things around under head coach Jake Spavital. Quarterback Tyler Vitt will be leading the charge for Texas State, hoping to ignite the offense and put points on the board against a tough Arizona State defense.

In terms of betting odds, Arizona State is currently favored by double digits in this matchup. The Sun Devils are seen as the more talented team and are expected to come out on top. However, college football is always unpredictable, and anything can happen on any given day.

As for a prediction, it’s likely that Arizona State will come out on top in this game. The Sun Devils have the talent and experience to outmatch Texas State, and they should be able to secure a comfortable victory. However, Texas State is a team that should not be underestimated, and they could potentially make things interesting if they can get their offense going.

Overall, Thursday’s game between Arizona State and Texas State promises to be an exciting matchup with plenty of storylines to follow. Fans can expect a competitive game with plenty of action on both sides of the ball. It will be interesting to see how both teams perform and how the game ultimately plays out.
