Charlotte Favored in NBA Summer League Odds

The Hornets are favored on Tuesday after turning heads in their first two Summer League games. They kicked things off with a dominant 97-65 win over the San Antonio Spurs. Then they followed that up by crushing China 93-62.

In the game against China, Bryce McGowens was the star of the show. He dropped 20 points and was money from the charity stripe, knocking down 12 of his 14 free throws.

Jake Stephens also made his presence felt, scoring 14 points in just over 14 minutes on the court. And Leaky Black chipped in seven points while posting an impressive plus-minus of +21.

The Sacramento Kings have also been balling out to start Summer League play. They’re sitting at 2-0 and will be looking to stay undefeated. In their Summer League opener, the Kings absolutely demolished China by a score of 101-50. They kept that momentum going against the Spurs, cruising to an 85-59 victory.

Keon Ellis led the way for the Kings last game with 13 points, including four triples. Boogie Ellis also stepped up big time off the bench, pouring in 17 points in 21 minutes of action.

Sacramento will need another strong performance from their second unit if they want to put the pressure on Charlotte and come away with the W.

Charlotte vs Sacramento Key Players Summer League

Charlotte has quite a talented Summer League roster; however, it’s worth noting talented 1st-round draft pick Tidjane Salaun won’t be playing in Sacramento due to injury.

Charlotte Hornets:

– Nick Smith Jr. (2023 1st round pick)
– Tidjane Salaun (2024 6th overall pick)
– KJ Simpson (2024 2nd round pick)

Other notable players: Leaky Black, Kevin Cross, RaeQuan Battle, Malik Hall, Drew Pember, Joel Soriano

Sacramento Kings:

– Devin Carter (2024 13th overall pick)
– Jordan Ford (Two-way contract)
– Mason Jones (Two-way contract)
– Isaiah Crawford (Two-way contract)

Hornets vs Kings Prediction

This is a pretty interesting matchup on paper. As mentioned, the Kings and Hornets have each played against Team China and totally dominated them. Sacramento beat China by 51 points, while Charlotte won by 31.

Both teams have also gone up against San Antonio and come away with pretty easy victories. The Hornets took down the Spurs by 32, and the Kings won their game by 26 points. Even though their rosters are full of no-name players, the Kings and Hornets are both playing some really good basketball right now.

Still, I’m giving the edge to Charlotte in this spot. The Hornets’ head coach is also coaching their Summer League squad. Sure, he’s new to the job, but having the main guy in charge is a big advantage over Sacramento. The Kings’ Summer League coach doesn’t have that same kind of experience.

When you look at how well these teams are playing, the coaching factor could end up being the difference maker. I like Charlotte’s chances of getting the W, so I’ll take advantage of the -190 price at Bet365, DraftKings has already moved this line to -220, so there’s some value right now despite the juice.
