Saturday, March 8: Kraken vs Flyers Matchup Analysis including Odds, Predictions, and Starting Goalies

  • After a wild NHL trade deadline, the Philadelphia Flyers (27-28-8) host the Seattle Kraken (26-33-4) Saturday afternoon at the Wells Fargo Center.
  • Philadelphia is favored at home by 1.5 goals. The Flyers are just 1-3 in their last four games against the spread.
  • We’ve got a look at the top odds, the trend on the starting goalies and a prediction for Kraken vs Flyers Saturday.

It’s just the eighth all-time meeting when the Philadelphia Flyers (27-28-8; 32-31 ATS) welcome the Seattle Kraken (26-33-4; 30-33 ATS) to the Wells Fargo Center Saturday for a 12:30 p.m. tilt.

Seattle is way back in the playoff chase, but the Flyers still have a pulse. They are five points out of the last wild card spot with 20 games to both.

Both teams were active at the trade deadline, making deals to set themselves up for the future.

I’m thinking about Saturday and have a special look at the best odds, predicted starting goalies and my prediction.

Kraken vs Flyers Odds

Odds as of March 7 at DraftKings Sportsbook. I know it’s hockey season, but gear up for March Madness with our best DraftKings Sportsbook offers.

The Flyers have hovered around .500 for much of the season. They’re 15-15-1 at home, while the Kraken are 12-18 on the road.

Philly is 1-3 in its last four games against the spread and 31-29-3 over/under this season. Four of their last six games have hit the over.

Seattle is 1-4 in its last five games against the spread and 31-29-3 over/under. The Kraken’s last four games have all hit the over.

The total is locked in at 5.5 goals, which seems low to me. I found the best moneyline bet for the Kraken is +122 at FanDuel and it’s FanDuel for Philly too at -141.

Seattle beat the Flyers 6-4 way back in October of 2024.

Kraken vs Flyers Things To Know

Both teams seemed to wave the flag a bit on the season this past week at the trade deadline. Seattle shipped out Brandon Tanev to the Jets (Winnipeg is going for it) and made a deal with the Lightning that brought back a pair of first-round picks.

Seattle only 2-4 since the All-Star break and have scored 17 goals in their last six games. It’s clear they are trying to build around forwards Shane Wright (37 points) and rising star Matty Beniers (33 points).

Philadelphia sent away Scott Laughton to Toronto and Erik Johnson to Colorado during the trade deadline as they try to get younger and quicker. Travis Konecny leads the offernse with 63 points, including 41 assists, but he hasn’t had a point in the last three games.

Kraken vs Flyers Prediction

  • Flyers ML +180 (at BetMGM)
  • Over 5.5 -120 (at BetMGM)

I think both locker rooms have to be a little shaky after all the trades last week. Neither team was expected to contend this season. This is kind of right where they were expected to be. I think though that Philly still has a glimmer of a shot at the playoffs and are still playing hard for Coach Torts.

I love the over in this one though, neither goalie has been playing well at all lately, and you look at the scoring trend and its up for both.

Kraken vs Flyers Projected Starting Goalies

Joey Daccord, Seattle

The 28-year-old is the Kraken’s top netminder, but that’s not saying much. His back-up, Philipp Grubauer is a woeful 5-15 and allowing almost four goals a night. Daccord has 21 wins and is allowing 2.64 goals a game. He has allowed 16 goals in the last four games and only has one goose egg this season.

Samuel Errson, Philadelphia

Errson has been about the same as he was last year when he played in 51 games. The 25-year old is 18-11 with an .889 save percentage and just under three goals a game allowed. He gave up four goals to Winnipeg on Thursday on 27 shots. He’s allowed 12 goals in his last three starts.

The Saturday, March 8 matchup between the Seattle Kraken and the Philadelphia Flyers is set to be an exciting game for hockey fans. Both teams are coming off of recent wins and will be looking to continue their success on the ice.

The Kraken, who are in their inaugural season in the NHL, have shown flashes of potential throughout the year. Led by captain Mark Giordano and star forward Jaden Schwartz, Seattle has the ability to compete with any team in the league. The Kraken are currently sitting in sixth place in the Pacific Division with a record of 20-33-4.

On the other side, the Flyers have had a disappointing season so far. Despite having talented players like Claude Giroux and Sean Couturier, Philadelphia has struggled to find consistency and currently sits in seventh place in the Metropolitan Division with a record of 18-30-10.

In terms of odds, the Kraken are favored to win this matchup. According to sportsbooks, Seattle has a 60% chance of coming out on top, while the Flyers have a 40% chance of winning.

As for predictions, it’s likely that this game will be a close one. Both teams have something to prove and will be looking to secure a win. However, the Kraken’s recent success and overall talent give them the edge in this matchup. Look for Seattle to come out strong and ultimately take home the victory.

In terms of starting goalies, it’s expected that Philipp Grubauer will be in net for the Kraken, while Carter Hart will likely get the start for the Flyers. Both goalies have had their ups and downs this season, but they have the ability to make big saves when it counts.

Overall, Saturday’s matchup between the Kraken and Flyers is sure to be an exciting game for hockey fans. With both teams looking to secure a win, it’s bound to be a competitive and entertaining contest. Be sure to tune in to see which team comes out on top.
