Preview of Devils vs Canes Game 2: Lineups, Prediction, Odds & Same-Game Parlay for April 22nd

  • The Hurricanes are huge -265 favorites over the Devils on ESPN Tuesday night
  • New Jersey tries to go down the same 0-2 hole against Carolina (2023) while the Hurricanes try to keep control of the series.

The Carolina Hurricanes started off Game 1 in much the same way the Canes did in 2023 against New Jersey. It was hard, fast-paced, forechecking hockey. Simply, New Jersey could not keep up. Jacob Markstrom gamely kept New Jersey in the contest, but the ultimate result was an easy Carolina cover and a 4-1 opening-game victory.

The Carolina Hurricanes will host the New Jersey Devils at Lenovo Center in Raleigh, North Carolina. Online sportsbooks are pretty uniform in the NHL odds.

Puck drop is scheduled for just after 6:00pm ET, with ESPN providing television coverage. ESPN+ is a option for streaming through a cable provider..

New Jersey vs Carolina Projected Game 2 Starting Lineups

Devils vs Canes Prediction

  • Canes -1.5 goals (+106) at FanDuel

Bluntly, Game 1 was rather predictable. New Jersey tried to keep up with the hit parade but ultimately faded, giving up chance after scoring chance. The 4-1 result was deceptive as the game could have easily been 6-1 or 7-1. Going to the well once again, I will not predict Carolina to win by more than 2.5 goals, but it is possible. Instead, taking the spread of 1.5 at plus money is still a reasonable bet.

New Jersey showed some glimpses of firepower late in the Game 1 contest. However, better starts and not taking penalties would be helpful. Special teams is a key in a series like this. For the Devils to have a chance, they must draw penalties and get the Carolina penalty kill nervous in any way. The same goes for even-strength play. If the Devils cannot do this in Game 2, then we are in for another short series like 2023.

The keys to the game are simple. New Jersey must not get cratered early in their defensive end. It is something that has happened in the last several postseason meetings with Carolina. We point to a matchup in November because that was when New Jersey got proactive, played with purpose, and generated penalties. The problem is that only happens at home and every so often. A consistent 60-minute effort is fleeting from a Devils team that is certainly not 100% (see Luke Hughes).

I do believe that again, Carolina holds the hammer and the major edge in Game 2.

New Jersey Devils vs Carolina Hurricanes Odds

The Devils vs Canes odds skate in with a total of 5.5 goals, with tilted juice on the over. With the numbers a bit different than Game 1, it may be advisable to hold out as long as possible.

The Canes are still plus money (+106 on FanDuel) to cover the puck line of 1.5 goals. Carolina simply holds an advantage over New Jersey with last line change. Shift by shift, it is very evident.

New Jersey Devils vs Carolina Hurricanes Same Game Parlay

Seth Jarvis came as close to Logan Stankoven to having not one but two goals on Sunday afternoon. Jarvis had two shots on goal and three scoring chances. Jarvis does not miss often and figures to connect on Tuesday night. I think people may be surprised that this goal total somehow hits six or greater.

Tuesday night should feature some even more banging and goals.

The Carolina Hurricanes will be looking to even up the series against the New Jersey Devils in Game 2 on April 22nd. After a disappointing loss in Game 1, the Hurricanes will be looking to bounce back and show why they were one of the top teams in the regular season.

Let’s take a look at the lineups for both teams heading into Game 2. The Devils will likely stick with their top line of Jack Hughes, Nico Hischier, and Jesper Bratt, who were dominant in Game 1. Their defense will be anchored by Dougie Hamilton and Damon Severson, who will be tasked with shutting down the Hurricanes’ potent offense.

The Hurricanes will look to their top line of Sebastian Aho, Andrei Svechnikov, and Teuvo Teravainen to lead the way offensively. Their defense will be led by Jaccob Slavin and Brett Pesce, who will need to step up after a lackluster performance in Game 1.

As for the prediction for Game 2, it’s tough to say who will come out on top. Both teams are evenly matched and have the talent to win on any given night. However, I believe the Hurricanes will come out with a sense of urgency and take Game 2 to even up the series.

In terms of odds, the Devils are currently slight underdogs heading into Game 2. However, with home-ice advantage and momentum from their Game 1 win, they could pull off another upset.

For those looking to spice up their viewing experience, a same-game parlay could be a fun option. You could bet on the Devils to win, Jack Hughes to score a goal, and the game to go into overtime for a potentially big payout.

Overall, Game 2 between the Devils and Hurricanes promises to be an exciting matchup with plenty of storylines to follow. Make sure to tune in on April 22nd to see which team comes out on top in this pivotal game.
