Houston Rockets vs Memphis Grizzlies Predictions
- Memphis Grizzlies -5 (-110) at Caesars
- Over 238 (-110) at Caesars
We’re going to be following both line moves for our Rockets vs Grizzlies picks. Memphis has a much cleaner injury report, while both of these teams play up tempo.
The big injury situation to monitor is that of Houston big man Alperen Sengun. The 6-11 center is dealing with a calf injury, and is listed as questionable. Sengun’s potential absence would be a major blow, especially in this matchup. Memphis is one of the best rebounding teams in the NBA, while Sengun is the Rockets leading man on the glass.
To make matters worse, backup center Steven Adams (ankle) is also questionable, while power forward Jabari Smith Jr. is out. That puts Houston potentially down three of its five best rebounders.
Sengun is also a premier defender. He ranks third in the NBA in defensive win shares, and seventh in defensive rating. At the other end, he’s averaging 19 points per game, and is third among centers in assists.
Houston will still find ways to create offense, as they’re one of the highest scoring teams in the league. The offense has been trending down lately however, even with Sengun, scoring 114 points or less in four of their past five outings.
The Grizzlies meanwhile, are red-hot. Memphis has won six of seven, scoring 125+ points in three of four. Jaren Jackson Jr. is making a strong push to be an All-Star reserve, and the team gets balanced production from both its first and second unit. Jackson Jr. leads the team with 22.8 points per game, while seven other regulars average over 9 points per night.
That’s turned the Grizzlies into a covering machine. Memphis, a top-eight NBA Championship odds contender, is 9-3 against the spread in its last 12 outings, and 17-7 ATS at home this season.
Both these teams love to push the pace, which should result in a high-scoring game. The Grizzlies play at the fastest rate in the NBA, while the Rockets will be forced to go more up tempo if Sengun sits. Memphis is 7-2 to the over in its last nine games, while Houston has seen six of its past nine outings go over.

Pick: Amen Thompson Over 17.5 Points (-115)
Sengun’s absence or possible limitations opens up more offensive opportunity for rookie Amen Thompson. The former fourth overall pick has seen a spike in playing time and usage recently, playing 36+ minutes in all but one game this month. As a result, he’s flourished.
Thomson has scored 17+ points in seven of his past 10 outings, putting up 12 or more shots in five of his past six games. He’s shooting 57% from the field in January, while also averaging 6 free throws per night.

The Houston Rockets will face off against the Memphis Grizzlies on January 30th in what is sure to be an exciting matchup. Both teams have been playing well recently, with the Rockets currently sitting at 14-32 and the Grizzlies at 21-23.
One of the key factors to consider when making predictions for this game is the injury status of key players. The Rockets will be without their star player, Christian Wood, who is currently sidelined with an ankle injury. This will undoubtedly have an impact on their performance, as Wood has been a key contributor to their offense this season.
On the other hand, the Grizzlies will be without Jaren Jackson Jr., who is still recovering from a knee injury. While Jackson’s absence will certainly be felt, the Grizzlies have shown that they are capable of winning games without him.
When it comes to player props, one player to keep an eye on is Ja Morant of the Grizzlies. Morant has been playing at a high level recently and is averaging 19.1 points, 7.8 assists, and 3.4 rebounds per game this season. He will likely be a key factor in the Grizzlies’ success in this game.
As for the odds, the Grizzlies are currently favored to win this matchup, with most sportsbooks giving them a slight edge. However, with the Rockets playing at home and looking to bounce back from a recent loss, this game could easily go either way.
In conclusion, while the Grizzlies may have the edge in this matchup, the absence of key players on both teams makes this game difficult to predict. Fans can expect a competitive and exciting game between these two teams on January 30th.
