  • The San Francisco Giants (61-60) host the Atlanta Braves (62-56) in a Tuesday night showdown in the Bay Area. Game 1 of the series went to the Braves in dramatic 1-0 fashion in 10 innings.
  • Kyle Harrison (6-5, 4.08 ERA) gets the ball for San Francisco, while the Braves will counter with Charlie Morton (6-7, 4.47 ERA).

Wow. What a game Blake Snell and Chris Sale provided for baseball fans last night! Both pitchers were electric, striking out 10+ batters while not allowing a run. Atlanta eventually got the win 1-0 in 10 innings in that thriller. With a couple of pitchers sporting 4+ ERAs in tonight’s game, we likely won’t see the same pitching prowess. But you never know with baseball! Game 2 of this series between playoff contenders is set to begin at 9:45 p.m. ET on Tuesday night and can be seen on the MLB Network and MLB.tv.

Braves vs Giants Picks

  • Over 8.5 runs (+105)
  • Matt Chapman over 1.5 total bases (+120)

It’s looking like it’s going to be a calm night in the Bay Area, so I don’t understand this line. If it was super windy or rainy, sure, maybe you take the under here. But with Harrison and Morton both sporting lackluster ERAs, I like this to be a bounce-back night for both offenses. I don’t have a good feel for which team will win, so I’ll just take the over, which is a surprising +105 on bet365 right now, and call it a day.

Also, despite not knowing which team will win, Matt Chapman of the Giants has hit Morton well. He’s 6-for-20 lifetime against the Braves’ starter (.300) with a double, a triple, a home run, 4 RBI and 3 walks against him. Not too bad!

Take the +120 odds at bet365 on Chapman to hit the over on 1.5 total bases tonight. There’s good value there with the plus odds.

Braves vs Giants Odds

Team Spread Moneyline Total
Atlanta Braves -1.5 (+150) -110 O 8.5 (+105)
San Francisco Giants +1.5 (-180) -110 U 8.5 (-125)

The moneyline is dead even for tonight’s game, which tracks with my comments earlier about not having a good feel for who will win tonight. Both sides are -110 on bet364. The Braves to win by 2+ runs is at +150, with the Giants +1.5 runs line at -180. As I mentioned above, I’m stunned that the over on 8.5 runs is at +105. Seems like a mistake to me. If you do think the under will hit, though, you can find -125 odds.

Braves vs Giants Starting Pitchers

Charlie Morton VS Kyle Harrison
6-7 Record 6-5
4.47 ERA 4.08
23.1% SO% 21.7%

Morton’s strikeout rate is at the lowest it has been since 2016, which goes a long way toward explaining some of his struggles this year. But his bigger problem is home runs. He’s given up more long balls this year in 114.2 innings (18) than he did in 163.1 innings (14) in 2023.

Harrison only had limited work in 2023, but so far in 2024, he’s giving up home runs at a rate of 1.2 per 9 innings, which isn’t great. He’s also allowing hard hits at a 44.2% clip this year, which is higher than last year’s number.

Basically, we can expect some loud contact tonight in San Francisco. If those balls stay in the park, I’ll be wrong and the under will hit. But I expect a few souvenirs to make their way into the bleachers in this game.

Tune in to MLB Network at 9:45 p.m. ET tonight to see who takes Game 2 of this very important National League series.

The Atlanta Braves will be facing off against the San Francisco Giants on August 13th in what is sure to be an exciting matchup. Both teams have been playing well this season, with the Braves currently leading the NL East and the Giants leading the NL West. Here are some predictions, player-prop picks, and starting pitchers to keep an eye on for this game.

Starting Pitchers:
For the Braves, Max Fried is expected to take the mound. Fried has been solid this season with a 9-7 record and a 3.99 ERA. He has been a reliable starter for the Braves and will look to continue his success against the Giants.

On the other side, the Giants will likely start Logan Webb. Webb has been a key contributor to the Giants’ success this season with a 6-3 record and a 3.54 ERA. He has shown great command on the mound and will be a tough matchup for the Braves’ hitters.

Predictions:
This game has the potential to be a close one, as both teams have strong pitching staffs and potent offenses. The Braves will look to rely on their power hitters like Freddie Freeman and Ronald Acuna Jr. to generate runs, while the Giants will look to their lineup depth to produce runs.

Player-Prop Picks:
For player-prop picks, keep an eye on Freddie Freeman for the Braves. Freeman has been hot at the plate recently and could be a good pick for hitting a home run or driving in runs. On the Giants side, look for Kris Bryant to make an impact. Bryant has been a key addition to the Giants lineup and has shown his ability to come through in clutch situations.

Overall, this game has all the makings of a competitive matchup between two playoff-bound teams. It will be interesting to see how both teams perform and which players step up in key moments. Be sure to tune in on August 13th to catch all the action!
