Tonight’s matchup is considered a bit of a tossup. The Phillies are runline favorites, though the Dodgers are slight moneyline favorites at -115.

The Over/Under for this matchup has been set at 8.5, with the under favored at -120. Keep in mind, 3 of the 4 games in this series have been under the listed total.
Dodgers vs. Phillies Pitching Matchup
Cristopher Sanchez vs. Clayton Kershaw
7-7 | Record | 0-1 |
3.36 | ERA | 5.87 |
98 | K | 6 |
1.28 | WHIP | 1.96 |
120.2 | IP | 7.2 |
Clayton Kershaw returned from shoulder surgery at the end of July, and he hasn’t had the best start. Obviously, prime and full healthy Kershaw is a proven winner, and one of the best pitchers in recent history. But his effectiveness for tonight’s game is definitely in question.
For one, his ERA is nearly north of 6 after just 7.2 innings of play since his return. He had a dismal outing against the Padres last week and faces one of the best lineups in baseball tonight. Kershaw has yet to throw more than 4 innings since returning and I’d be surprised if he breaks that streak tonight against Philly.
For that reason, Philadelphia has the considerable pitching advantage tonight. Cristopher Sanchez is the weakest of the Phillies’ 4 main starters, but he had an excellent outing last time out against Los Angeles, allowing just 2 earned runs and 5 hits across 6 innings pitched in mid-July. He earned the win for that outing, too.
Sanchez isn’t known for his high strike volume, but he’s a threat to punch out 7+ every single night. He’s had a bit of a rough July, especially so in his last outing against New York where he allowed 8 hits and 6 earned runs.
However, when Sanchez is on he’s one of the better pitchers in the National League. His ERA is 20th in Major League baseball and he has a solid 1.28 WHIP.
Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Philadelphia Phillies Prediction
- PHI vs. LAD pick: Phillies -105
The Phillies have the pitching advantage and are playing to even up the series tonight in Los Angeles, and I think they’ll do just that. Philadelphia’s lineup was hitting well against Kershaw before his shoulder surgery, and they could rake in their first matchup since his return. Again, this Phillies lineup is considered one of the best in baseball for a reason.
I’d be surprised if this is a blowout thanks to Los Angeles’ also stout offensive lineup.

The Philadelphia Phillies are set to take on the Los Angeles Dodgers on August 6th in what is sure to be an exciting matchup between two talented teams. Both teams have been playing well this season, with the Dodgers currently leading the NL West and the Phillies in the hunt for a playoff spot in the NL East.
The probable pitchers for this game are expected to be Zack Wheeler for the Phillies and Walker Buehler for the Dodgers. Wheeler has been one of the Phillies’ top pitchers this season, with a 9-6 record and a 2.57 ERA. He has been dominant on the mound, striking out 181 batters in 141.2 innings pitched. Buehler, on the other hand, has been solid for the Dodgers with a 10-2 record and a 2.37 ERA. He has been a key part of the Dodgers’ rotation, striking out 134 batters in 130.2 innings pitched.
In terms of predictions for this game, it is expected to be a close matchup between two evenly matched teams. The Phillies have a strong lineup led by Bryce Harper and J.T. Realmuto, while the Dodgers have a potent offense led by Mookie Betts and Justin Turner. Both teams have solid pitching staffs as well, so it could come down to which team executes better on both sides of the ball.
As for picks, it is always tough to predict the outcome of a baseball game, but based on recent performance and the probable pitchers for this game, the Dodgers may have a slight edge. They have been playing well as of late and have a strong home record, which could give them the advantage in this matchup.
Overall, this game between the Phillies and Dodgers is sure to be a must-watch for baseball fans. With two talented teams facing off and two top pitchers on the mound, it is shaping up to be a competitive and exciting game. Be sure to tune in on August 6th to see how it all plays out.
