Sunday Night Baseball on July 7 has cued up a classic as the Boston Red Sox (48-40, 28-17 away) finish off a three-game series with the New York Yankees (55-36, 25-18 home) at 7:10 pm ET at Yankee Stadium.

The AL East rivals have split the first two games, with Boston taking the opener 5-3 on Friday – coming back from 3-1 down in the ninth inning – and the Pinstripes answering back with a crushing 14-4 win on Saturday.

With Luis Gil on the mound opposite Boston’s Kutter Crawford, New York is favored to win the rubber match, but Sunday’s Red Sox vs Yankees odds are tight.

Boston Red Sox vs New York Yankees Odds

Team Moneyline Runline Total
Boston Red Sox (K. Crawford) +112 +1.5 (-192) O 8.5 (-110)
New York Yankees (L Gil) -132 +1.5 (+124) U 8.5 (-110)

New York is listed at -132 on the moneyline, with Boston a +112 road underdog. The over/under has been set at 8.5 runs with -110 odds both ways.

The Yankees (+550) have slipped to third in the 2024 World Series odds, trailing both the Dodgers (+320) and MLB-leading Phillies (+500). Boston is 13th at +5500.

Yankees Crush Red Sox to End Four-Game Skid

New York entered Saturday’s game on a four-game losing streak, tying their longest of the season. They exorcised some frustrations with a 14-4 win which included seven-run fifth inning. Rookie first baseman Ben Rice went 3-5 with seven RBI including a three-run homer. Alex Verdugo also went yard for the Yankees. Rafael Devers had the only longball for Boston.

Making just his fourth start of an injury-shortened season, New York ace Gerrit Cole continued to look less than 100%, allowing four runs on seven hits and two walks over just 4.1 innings of work. The reigning AL Cy Young-winner now has a 6.75 ERA and 1.62 WHIP this year.

Red Sox vs Yankees Probable Pitchers for Sunday Night Baseball

Both teams are apt to feel confident in their Sunday starters. Boston’s Kutter Crawford has an ugly 4-7 win-loss record but his 3.89 xERA, 1.11 WHIP, and 25.2% strikeout percentage portend better things for the 28-year-old righty.

Sunday will be Crawford’s second start of the season against New York. In the first, he went a solid 6.0 innings, allowing three runs on just three hits (two homers) and a walk with nine strikeouts. Over his three-year career, he’s limited the (current) Yankee lineup to a .132 average and .514 OPS over 53 total ABs.

Aaron Judge has taken Crawford deep twice, while Jose Trevino is the only other Yankee with a home run off him.

Crawford’s last start was a gem, albeit against the light-hitting Marlins. He tossed 6.0 innings of three-hit, one-run ball in an 8-3 Boston victory.

Kutter Crawford vs Luis Gil

4-7 Record 9-4
3.42 ERA 3.41
3.89 xERA 3.47
1.11 WHIP 1.13
25.2% K% 27.4%

Still technically a rookie despite making big-league appearances in 2021 and 2022, Luis Gil has been the de facto ace of the New York staff this year. He is tied for the team lead in wins with nine and has a team-high 10.2 K/9. He has a sharp 3.41 ERA and an xERA to match (3.47).

He was good (but not great) in his only start against Boston so far this season, going 5.0 innings while allowing four hits, four walks, and one run with six Ks in an 8-1 New York win.

In total, Boston hitters have accumulated 26 at-bats against Gil with an ugly .192 average and .532 OPS. No one has taken him yard and Enmanuel Valdez has the only extra-base hit (a double).

Red Sox vs Yankees Predictions

The way both starters have dominated the opposition hitters, my lean is to a first-half under on Sunday Night Baseball. FanDuel lists under 4.5 at -102 and under 3.5 at a tantalizing +172 price tag.

The Yankees have been fortunate to have call-ups like Rice perform well in their first big-league experience, but this is still a lineup that’s reeling from injuries. Giancarlo Stanton, Anthony Rizzo, and Gleyber Torres are all out (though Torres’ status for Sunday is unclear), and that’s a big part of why the Yankees have ceded first-place in the AL East to Baltimore over the past few weeks.

BOS vs NYY picks:

  • First 5 innings under 3.5 (+172 at FanDuel)
  • Crawford over 5.5 Ks (-105 at DraftKings)
  • DJ LeMahieu under 0.5 hits (+125)

The Red Sox and Yankees rivalry is one of the most storied in all of sports, and this Sunday night’s game is sure to be a thrilling matchup. Both teams have been playing well as of late, with the Red Sox currently leading the AL East and the Yankees not far behind. With so much on the line, here are some predictions, picks, and props for the game on July 7th.

Prediction: This game is sure to be a close one, as both teams have strong lineups and solid pitching staffs. However, I predict that the Red Sox will come out on top in a tight contest. Their offense has been firing on all cylinders recently, and their pitching has been solid as well. Look for them to eke out a win in a high-scoring affair.

Pick: If you’re looking to place a bet on this game, I would recommend taking the Red Sox to win. They have been playing well and have the home-field advantage, which could give them the edge they need to come out on top.

Props: There are plenty of prop bets you can make on this game, from who will hit the first home run to how many strikeouts each pitcher will record. One prop bet that could be interesting is whether or not there will be a bench-clearing brawl. The Red Sox and Yankees have a long history of bad blood between them, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see some fireworks on the field.

Overall, this Sunday night’s game between the Red Sox and Yankees is sure to be a must-watch for any baseball fan. With so much talent on both sides, it’s anyone’s guess who will come out on top. But if you’re looking to place a bet, my money is on the Red Sox to take home the win.
