The worst record in Major League Baseball hosts one of the best in the America League Wednesday for the first game in a doubleheader. Last night’s game between the White Sox and Twins was rained out, meaning the 2 will play a pair to decide the series after Minnesota took Game 1 on Monday, 8-6.

The Twins have a winning record on the road while the White Sox are under .333 at home. The Twins have also won 7 of their last 9 while Chicago has lost 6 of their last 8.

Chicago White Sox vs. Minnesota Twins Prediction

  • CHI vs. MIN pick: MIN -1.5

Minnesota is far and away the better batting team in this matchup and has the edge in the bullpen as well, but these starting pitchers are about even which at first made me hesitant to take Minnesota -1.5 at +105.

But at the end of the day, this one doesn’t take much explanation. The White Sox have been flat out terrible this season except for some solid pitching from today’s starter Erick Fedde and Garrett Crochet. The White Sox don’t have a batter with more than 50 at-bats hitting over .250 this season while Minnesota has 7 such batters.

Fedde may keep things close for a bit, but I doubt this will be interesting late.

Twins vs. White Sox Odds

As you can see, Minnesota is considered fairly heavy road favorites for Wednesday’s game, but in my opinion the odds are still lower than I’d have guessed coming in.

The Twins sit at -160 ML with Chicago +130 to win outright. Chicago is favored to keep the game within a run at +1.5 while Minnesota holds +105 odds to win by 2 or more runs.

The Over/Under for Wednesday’s first game is set at 8, a fair number considering the caliber of pitchers set to hit the mound. The over is just slightly favored.

White Sox vs. Twins Pitching Matchup

Erick Fedde vs Bailey Ober

6-3 Record 8-4
3.13 ERA 4.12
3.58 xERA 3.61
1.13 WHIP 1.10
106.1 IP 94.0

White Sox pitcher Erick Fedde, despite Chicago’s struggles, is putting together by far the best season of his career in Major League Baseball.

Fedde, who used to play for the Nationals, has his best K/BB ratio of his career, is on track to shoot well past his most innings pitched in a single year and is well on track to surpass his season high for strikeouts in a year.

Fedde has yet to face the Twins this season, but he’s had some trouble in the past against this lineup. The Twins are hitting .304 against Fedde with 10 hits in 33 at-bats. Carlos Santana has accounted for nearly half those at-bats and 3 of those 10 hits.

Bailey Ober will take the mound opposite Fedde, and he’s fared really well against the White Sox. Chicago’s lineup is hitting just .253 against Ober with strong success against Andrew Vaughn, the White Sox’ top hitter.

It seems Ober has only gotten better as the season has progressed, too. He’s earned a win in 4 of his last 5 starts and has struck out at least 8 in 4 of his last 5. If you’re wondering, his line for Ks today sits at 6.5 (O +1.5 Fanatics)

The Minnesota Twins will face off against the Chicago White Sox on July 10th in what is sure to be an exciting matchup between these two American League Central rivals. Both teams have had their ups and downs this season, but they will be looking to come out on top in this game.

The Twins will likely send Jose Berrios to the mound as their starting pitcher for this game. Berrios has been a reliable starter for the Twins this season, posting a 7-2 record with a 3.48 ERA. He has the ability to shut down opposing hitters with his arsenal of pitches, including a devastating curveball and a mid-90s fastball. Berrios will look to keep the White Sox hitters off balance and give his team a chance to win.

On the other side, the White Sox will likely counter with Dylan Cease as their starting pitcher. Cease has had an up-and-down season so far, with a 6-4 record and a 4.14 ERA. He has shown flashes of brilliance at times, but has also struggled with his command and consistency. Cease will need to bring his A-game against a potent Twins lineup that features sluggers like Nelson Cruz and Josh Donaldson.

In terms of predictions for this game, it is always difficult to predict the outcome of a baseball game with certainty. However, based on the pitching matchup and the current form of both teams, the Twins may have a slight edge in this game. Their lineup has been more consistent than the White Sox’s this season, and Berrios has been one of the Twins’ best pitchers.

Overall, this game has all the makings of a close and competitive matchup between two talented teams. Fans can expect to see some great pitching, timely hitting, and possibly some late-inning drama. It should be a game that fans of both teams won’t want to miss.
