The Red Raiders flew as close to the sun as you could ride without burning out, overcoming a 16-point second-half deficit to beat the 10th-seeded Arkansas Razorbacks 85-83 in overtime. It’s the second-largest comeback in Sweet 16 history.

Darrion Williams clutched up big time for TTU, drilling a game-tying triple that forced overtime, then muscling up a bucket late in OT, which would be the eventual winning points. He was one of three starters to touch 20 points, with Christian Anderson leading the way with 22.

It was a lot less chaotic for the Gators, who grinded down the #4 seed Maryland Terrapins to punch their ticket to the Elite Eight.

The Gators shot 50% from the field, and a crisp 11-for-28 from 3-point range, a 39.3% clip, breaking open a 2-point game at halftime to win going away. Their defense held the Terps to 40.7% shooting, and Florida dominated the glass, earning a +22 advantage overall.

Will Richard was one of six Gators to score in double figures, leading the way with 15 points, four rebounds and three assists.

Texas Tech vs Florida Picks

Fatigue might play a factor in this matchup, as the Red Raiders are going to have to put the emotions and drama from the Sweet 16 matchup away to handle a whole other (and more intimidating) beast with just a one-day break.

All but one starter logged at least 37 minutes against Arkansas, with Elijah Hawkins playing a game-high 45 minutes and Christian Anderson right behind him at 44.

The Red Raiders only go seven deep, and Kevin Overton took most of Kerwin Walton’s minutes, logging 37 himself.

Texas Tech was third in the Big 12 in scoring at 80.9 points per game, and they might be one of the few teams that can hand with the Gators point-for-point. The Red Raiders are third in KenPom’s offensive efficiency metric, just a little below Florida.

The Gators not only bring an offense that scored 85.5 points per game — second only to Alabama, but they were tied for third in scoring defense in the SEC, allowing 69.4 points per game.

This might be the one area Florida takes a slight advantage: they’re ninth in KenPom’s defensive efficiency ranking, while the Red Raiders are 39th, the third-worst rating left standing in the tournament.

Florida might also be able to contain Texas Tech’s 3-point shooting, which was off to the tune of 8-for-32 against Arkansas. The Gators are a Top-10 team in defending the arc, holding opponents to 29.3% shooting from the field.

Florida is also looking for its 10th straight win, and only twice in those games has an opponent kept it to a single-digit decision. They’re 7-2-0 against the spread.

Tech puts up a fight, but Florida’s talent rises, especially in the second half to put their opponent away.

  • Texas Tech vs Florida pick: Florida -6.5 (-105)

The Elite Eight matchup between Texas Tech and Florida is shaping up to be an exciting and highly anticipated game. Both teams have had impressive runs in the NCAA tournament so far, with Texas Tech coming off a dominant win over Purdue and Florida pulling off a thrilling upset over top-seeded Gonzaga.

When looking at the matchup between these two teams, there are a few key factors to consider. Texas Tech is known for their stifling defense, which has been a major factor in their success this season. Led by standout players like Mac McClung and Terrence Shannon Jr., the Red Raiders have been able to shut down some of the best offenses in the country.

On the other hand, Florida has a dynamic offense that can score in bunches. Led by guards Tre Mann and Tyree Appleby, the Gators have the ability to light up the scoreboard and keep pace with any team in the country. Their ability to shoot from beyond the arc and attack the basket will be crucial in this matchup against Texas Tech’s tough defense.

In terms of predictions, this game could go either way. Texas Tech’s defense will be a tough challenge for Florida, but the Gators have shown that they can rise to the occasion in big games. It will likely come down to which team can execute their game plan better and make key plays down the stretch.

If I had to make a pick, I would give a slight edge to Texas Tech in this matchup. Their defense has been outstanding all season and I believe they will be able to slow down Florida’s high-powered offense. However, Florida is a talented team that should not be underestimated, so this game could easily go either way.

Overall, this Elite Eight matchup between Texas Tech and Florida is sure to be a thrilling and closely contested game. Both teams have what it takes to advance to the Final Four, so fans can expect an intense battle on the court. It will be interesting to see which team comes out on top and punches their ticket to the next round of the tournament.
