The Rockets have posted a winning record for the 15th straight season – the fifth longest active streak in FBS and are looking to improve their bowl resume. For the Zips, they might be playing for coach Joe Moorhead’s job. The Akron AD just left last week.
Both teams are out of the hunt for the MAC title. Toledo’s loss last week to Ohio knocked them out of the race.

The sportsbooks peg Toledo as the favorites entering Tuesday night on the road. The Rockets are just 5-6 against the number in 2024. They have been favored in each of their last four games, but are just 1-3 against the spread during that timespan.
Akron has been underdogs in every game but two this season. Their 5-6 ATS record is respectable. They are 3-1 in their last four games against the spread.
Both of these teams have been solid over bets. Akron’s last three games have all hit the over. The Zips are 8-3 over/under this season, while Toledo is 7-4. BetRivers has the total listed at 48, while every other book has it listed higher. The total is 49 at Caesars and DraftKings.
The weather forecast for kickoff is windy with temperatures in the mid-30s. Typical MAC weather in late November.

Ordinary Joe?
It’s a bad sign when you google Joe Moorhead and hot seat and plenty of things come up. The Akron coach took over a program that had sunk to the bottom of FBS three years ago, and it’s hard to tell if he’s made any progress. Akron won two games in 2022, two in 2023 and has now won three. Attendance at home games has been under 5,000 people the last two times out. Plus the AD being gone? Tough for Moorhead to survive.
The Zips are coming off maybe their best performance ever under Moorhead, scoring a season high 38 points in a win over woeful Kent State.
Junior QB Ben Finley leads an offense that scores just 20.4 points a game, second-to-last in the MAC. The big offensive weapon is wide receiver Adrian Norton who has 831 yards and seven touchdowns.

Rockets Red Glare
The Rockets are sure to be a little less enthusiastic after their loss last week to Ohio. They gave up 24 points in the second half in a 24-7 loss.
Offensively, the Rockets rank third in the MAC in scoring. Quarterback Tucker Gleason has thrown for 20 touchdowns. Senior wide receiver Jerjuan Newton leads the Rockets with 868 yards and 10 touchdowns. Running back Connor Walendzak and Gleason are the main ballcarriers, but the ground game is not Toledo’s strength (it ranks ninth in the MAC in rushing offense). Neither averages over four yards per carry.
Last week we told you about Rockets star safety Maxen Hook, he had a pick and a career-high 16 tackles in the loss to Ohio. He’s the big playmaker on the Toledo defense.
Toledo vs Akron Prediction
- Toledo -8.0 at Caesars
- Over 48.5 at FanDuel
You have two teams going in opposite directions. Coach Jason Candle has always had Toledo ready to play (remember, they clobbered Mississippi State earlier this year) and in contention in the MAC. A win here gets them to a mid-tier bowl. Moorhead hasn’t gotten it done for Akron. He could be in trouble. Akron is just a tough place to get kids to come play.
We think Toledo has more than enough offense to get it done at Akron and will take advantage of the total at FanDuel to be safe.

In what promises to be an exciting matchup in Tuesday MACtion, the Toledo Rockets will face off against the Akron Zips on November 26th. Both teams are coming off of tough losses and will be looking to bounce back with a win.
The Rockets currently sit at 6-5 overall and 3-4 in conference play. They are led by quarterback Eli Peters, who has thrown for 2,172 yards and 19 touchdowns this season. Running back Bryant Koback has been a force on the ground, rushing for 1,012 yards and 12 touchdowns. Toledo’s offense is averaging 32.5 points per game, but their defense has struggled at times, allowing an average of 27.5 points per game.
On the other side, the Zips are 0-11 overall and 0-7 in conference play. Despite their winless record, Akron has shown flashes of potential throughout the season. Quarterback Kato Nelson has thrown for 1,499 yards and 6 touchdowns, while running back Deltron Sands has rushed for 502 yards and 4 touchdowns. The Zips’ offense is averaging just 10.5 points per game, while their defense is allowing an average of 36.5 points per game.
In terms of predictions, Toledo comes into this game as the heavy favorite. The Rockets have more talent and experience than the Zips, and should be able to take advantage of Akron’s struggling defense. However, the Zips have nothing to lose and could come out with a strong performance in front of their home crowd.
As for the odds, Toledo is currently listed as a 17-point favorite over Akron. The over/under for total points scored in the game is set at 54.5. Bettors may want to consider taking Toledo to cover the spread, as they have the offensive firepower to put up points against Akron’s defense.
Overall, this matchup between Toledo and Akron has the potential to be an entertaining game for fans of MACtion. Both teams will be looking to end their season on a high note, and it will be interesting to see which team comes out on top in this Tuesday night showdown.
