- Holding onto the final NL Wild Card, the Braves go for their fourth straight win on Wednesday
- The Phillies have lost four straight road games
- Below, see the Philadelphia Phillies vs Atlanta Braves predictions, player-prop picks, and best odds
The Atlanta Braves (67-58, 33-26 home) host the Philadelphia Phillies (73-52, 31-29 away) on Wednesday night in the second of a three-game series at Truist Park at 7:20 pm ET.
Atlanta was able to hand Zack Wheeler a rare loss last night in a 3-1 victory behind a 10-K performance from starter Reynaldo Lopez.
The job doesn’t get much easier for the Braves hitters on Wednesday as Philly sends Aaron Nola to the mound opposite Atlanta’s Max Fried in a game that most sportsbooks list as a pick’em.
Philadelphia Phillies vs Atlanta Braves Picks & Predictions
- Phillies first 5 innings moneyline (-110) at bet365
- Fried under 17.5 outs (+130) at DraftKings
- Over 7.5 runs (-115) at BetMGM
The theme running through today’s Phillies vs Braves picks is that I have no confidence in Max Fried. The two-time All-Star, who was injured during the All-Star weekend, hasn’t been the same since returning to the mound. In three starts, Fried has allowed 13 runs (12 earned) in just 13.2 innings allowing 16 hits and 11 walks in the process (1.975 WHIP).
While one of those starts came in the rarified air of Coors Field, the other two were at pitcher-friendly Oracle Park against the Giants and at home against the light-hitting Marlins.
Making matters worse for Fried, he’s been absolutely torched by the current Phillies lineup. In 229 total ABs, they are hitting .319 with a .909 OPS against the 6’4 lefty. Nick Castellanos is 11-for-18 (.611) with a home run and three RBI while Trea Turner is 17-for-43 (.395) with three homers and six RBI.
Fried’s struggles against the Phillies continued this season. In two 2024 starts, he’s allowed eight earned runs on 13 hits and four walks over just 6.2 innings.
Fried has also been much worse at home this season than on the road, sporting a 4.27 ERA in Atlanta and a 3.23 ERA everywhere else.
Nola hasn’t exactly been lights-out against Atlanta this year (nine earned runs on 16 hits and a walk over 10.1 innings) but his career numbers against the Braves are somewhat encouraging; in 279 at-bats, the current Atlanta hitters have just a .229 average and .690 OPS against the 31-year-old righty.
Nola was also solid last time out, pitching 6.2 shutout innings in a 3-2 win over the Nationals, allowing seven hits and two walks.
Best Phillies vs Braves Odds
As mentioned, most books have this as a pick’em with both teams at -110. But there are some slight variations in the moneyline price. Bettors can get the Phillies at -108 to win at DraftKings and the Braves to win at -108 at FanDuel. FanDuel also has the best price on Atlanta’s +1.5 runline at -176, while the best odds on the Phillies to win by multiple runs is at BetMGM (+165). Every sportsbook other than DraftKings lists the total at 7.5, while DK has it at 8.0 with the juice shaded to the under.

The Philadelphia Phillies will be facing off against the Atlanta Braves on August 21 in what is sure to be an exciting matchup. As fans gear up for the game, many are looking to make some player-prop picks and predictions to add an extra level of excitement to the experience.
One player to keep an eye on in this game is Phillies’ outfielder Bryce Harper. Harper has been having a strong season so far, hitting .276 with 23 home runs and 49 RBIs. He has also been performing well against the Braves this season, hitting .333 with 3 home runs in 9 games. With his hot bat and success against Atlanta, Harper could be a solid pick for a player-prop bet on hits or home runs.
On the Braves’ side, outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr. is a player to watch. Acuna has been one of the top hitters in the league this season, batting .286 with 28 home runs and 57 RBIs. He has also had success against the Phillies, hitting .310 with 4 home runs in 9 games. Acuna could be a strong pick for player-prop bets on hits, home runs, or RBIs.
In terms of pitching, the Phillies will likely send Aaron Nola to the mound. Nola has been solid this season, posting a 3.64 ERA with 171 strikeouts in 151.1 innings pitched. He has also had success against the Braves, holding them to a .223 batting average in 4 starts. Nola could be a good pick for player-prop bets on strikeouts or earned runs allowed.
For the Braves, Max Fried is expected to start. Fried has been impressive this season, posting a 3.78 ERA with 124 strikeouts in 126 innings pitched. He has also performed well against the Phillies, holding them to a .231 batting average in 3 starts. Fried could be a solid pick for player-prop bets on strikeouts or earned runs allowed.
As for the odds, the Phillies are currently listed as slight favorites with -120 odds, while the Braves are listed as underdogs with +110 odds. The over/under for the game is set at 8.5 runs.
