Monday Night Hockey: Avalanche vs Stars Game 5 Prediction, Pick & Odds

  • The Colorado Avalanche and Dallas Stars face-off for a crucial Game 5 on Monday, April 28
  • The Avalanche are -140 road favorites with the series knotted up at two games apiece
  • Read my Avalanche vs Stars Game 5 prediction with odds and best bet below

As everyone expected, the Colorado Avalanche and Dallas Stars first-round series was going to be a barnburner. The Avs won Game 1 decisively, the Stars took the next two duels in overtime, then Colorado shut Dallas out in Game 4. In the Stanley Cup odds, Colorado’s best price of +800 can be found at DraftKings, while Dallas is +1300 at BetMGM.

In the regular season, Colorado was 49-29-4 for 102 points, third in the Central Division. Dallas was 50-26-6 for 106 points, second in the Central. Big D also eliminated their adversaries in the second round last postseason. Puck drop is scheduled for 9:30 pm ET, with coverage on ESPN in the United States and Sportsnet in Canada.

Colorado Avalanche vs Dallas Stars Game 5 Prediction

  • Over 6 goals (-110 at Caesars)

The Avalanche transformed their ability to keep the puck out of their net by trading for Mackenzie Blackwood. Prior to his arrival mid-December, the Avs were fourth worst in GAA (3.52), and since that time, second best in the NHL (2.39). In this series, he’s outplayed Jake Oettinger with a 1.60 GAA and sparkling .939 save percentage, compared to 2.72 GAA and still solid .911 save %.

Colorado has been able to score more goals, ranking eighth in the postseason, while Dallas is tied for last at 1.75 per outing. However, these two teams combined to score six goals in Game 1 and seven in Game 2 in Big D.

No Dallas Star has more than Thomas Harley’s three points, and the one player that hasn’t lived up to the billing thus far is former Avalanche Mikko Rantanen. He hasn’t had his revenge on his former team for trading him this year, mustering just one assist in the first four battles.

Avalanche vs Stars Series Head-to-Head Stats and Playoff Ranks

COL Avalanche vs DAL Stars Injury News

The Avalanche are relatively healthy, with only forward (Ross Colton) missing the last three games with a lower-body injury, and he’s considered day-to-day. The Avs received a huge emotional lift with captain Gabriel Landeskog’s return in Game 3 after a severe knee injury resulted in a three-year hiatus, and he had one goal and one helper in Game 4.

The Stars have significant injury woes, as Jason Robertson left the final game of the regular season with a knee ailment, and he’s “week-to-week”. He led the team in goals with 35 and was second in points with 80. Blueliner Miro Heiskanen (knee) has been ruled out of this contest, weakening their defensive corps.

The team did get a boost when Tyler Seguin came back after a 58-game absence (hip surgery) to close out the final game of the regular season, and he’s played all four games of the series, leading the squad with two goals.

Avalanche vs Stars Odds Game 5

In the Avalanche vs Stars odds, the road team are -140 favorites, giving them a 58.33% implied win probability to head back to Colorado up 3-2 in the series.

A $140 bet would profit $100 if they’re victorious. Conversely, a $100 wager on +118 Stars would return $118. Our SBD formula has the Stars emerging victorious 3.33-3.00, meaning Dallas would cover the spread, and the over 6 goal total (-110) would hit.

Where I’m honing in is the goal total for this crucial Game 5. In eight of the last nine duels between these two rivals in Dallas, there have been over six goals scored, and the other instance was exactly six goals, in Game 1. That’s a strong sample size, and for that, I’m selecting goals aplenty in this matchup Monday.

The Monday Night Hockey matchup between the Colorado Avalanche and the Dallas Stars in Game 5 of their playoff series is shaping up to be a thrilling and intense battle. Both teams have shown their strengths and weaknesses throughout the series, making it difficult to predict the outcome of this crucial game.

The Avalanche, led by superstar Nathan MacKinnon, have been dominant offensively, scoring goals at a rapid pace and putting pressure on the Stars’ defense. However, they have struggled at times to contain the Stars’ top line, which includes players like Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn. In order to secure a victory in Game 5, the Avalanche will need to tighten up defensively and continue to generate scoring opportunities.

On the other hand, the Stars have relied heavily on their goaltender Anton Khudobin to keep them in games. Khudobin has been outstanding throughout the series, making key saves and giving his team a chance to win. The Stars will need to continue to play solid defense in front of Khudobin and capitalize on their scoring chances in order to come out on top in Game 5.

As for the odds, the Avalanche are currently favored to win Game 5, with odds of -150. The Stars are the underdogs with odds of +130. This indicates that the oddsmakers believe the Avalanche have a slight edge in this matchup.

In terms of a prediction, it’s difficult to say which team will come out on top in Game 5. Both teams have shown that they are capable of winning games in this series, and it could come down to which team executes their game plan better on Monday night. However, if I had to make a pick, I would lean towards the Avalanche pulling out a close victory in Game 5.

Overall, Monday Night Hockey between the Avalanche and Stars promises to be an exciting and competitive game. Fans can expect a fast-paced and physical matchup between two talented teams vying for a spot in the next round of the playoffs. Be sure to tune in to see who comes out on top in this pivotal Game 5 showdown.
