Arguably the hottest team in the nation, the #1 Florida Gators (33-4, 26-10 ATS) needed everything they could muster to get past two-time defending national champion UConn in the second round on Sunday. Now the Gators are scheduled to meet the Maryland Terrapins (27-8, 18-16-1 ATS) in the Sweet 16 next Thursday, March 27. Despite a subpar performance (by their lofty standards) against the Huskies, the Gators have opened as heavy favorites to reach the Elite Eight for the first time since 2017.
Opening Maryland vs Florida Odds
The opening Maryland vs Florida spread favors the Gators by 4.5 points while UF is a -205 favorite on the moneyline, giving Florida a 67.21% implied win probability. As a +170 underdog, 37.04 has a % implied win probability. The game total has opened at 150.5 with -110 odds each way.

The Gators remain the +280 second-favorite in the March Madness championship odds, trailing only outright favorite Duke at +230. The Terps are +3500 longshots to win their first title since 2002.
Florida didn’t cover the 9.5-point spread against UConn on Sunday, but the Gators have been one of the best ATS bets in the country all season, going 26-10 against the number in their first 36 games, a 72.2% cover rate. Only three of the nation’s 364 Division I teams covered at a higher rate than Florida.
The Gators got another solid performance from leading scorer Walter Clayton Jr in their 77-75 win over UConn on Sunday in Raleigh. The 6’3 senior guard had a game-high 23 points on 6-of-14 shooting from the field and a 6-of-7 performance from the stripe. Despite committing twice as many turnovers as the Huskies, Florida’s +5 edge on the glass and electric three-point shooting (47.4% to 27.6% for the Huskies) proved the difference.
The Terrapins put the boots to #13 Grand Canyon in the first round (81-49), propelled by an 18-point, nine-rebound performance from forward Julian Reese (13.3 PPG, 9.0 RPG) and a 12-point, 15-rebound night from freshman sensation Derik Queen (16.2 PPG, 9.2 RPG).
The road was much tougher in the second round against #12 Colorado State. Maryland found itself trailing by seven after the first half (37-30) but battled all the way back for a 72-71 win, thanks to a last-second bucket by Queen to put the Terps on top by one. Queen led Maryland with 17 points and six rebounds in the victory, helped by a 15-point, 11-rebound double-double from Reese.
