- The San Francisco Giants (29-31) travel to the desert to play the Arizona Diamondbacks (27-32) in the first game of a 3-game NL West series on Monday night.
- Ryne Nelson (3-4, 6.02 ERA) takes the hill for Arizona, while San Francisco has yet to name a starter.

The Arizona Diamondbacks host the San Francisco Giants on Monday night in a game between two squads who are surprised to be below .500 at this stage of the season. The Diamondbacks represented the National League in the World Series last year, but have struggled so far in 2024. The game is scheduled to start at 9:40 p.m. ET and can be seen on FS1.
Giants vs Diamondbacks Picks
- Over 9.0 runs scored
- Jorge Soler over 1.5 total bases
Ryne Nelson has an ERA north of 6.00, so he’s a safe bet to give up a few runs tonight. Nelson gave up 19 earned runs in 24.2 innings in May. Look for the Giants to hit him well. Meanwhile, Jorge Soler hasn’t had a ton of experience against Nelson, but he’s had multiple hits in each of his last 2 games, so he’s hot right now. I like him to have 2+ total bases tonight as he smacks an extra-base hit against Nelson.
Arizona’s offense has been solid this year, scoring 274 runs. The problem? The Diamondbacks have also given up exactly 274 runs. Meanwhile, the Giants have scored 257 runs while allowing 286. Basically, these two teams are not getting very good pitching this season, and it has hurt them as they fall below expectations through the first 2 months of the 2024 campaign.

As mentioned earlier in this article, it hasn’t been a strong start to the year for Nelson. His ERA is high and his strikeout rate isn’t great. He’s been getting hit hard so far this season, and I don’t expect that to change tonight. The Giants’ lineup has only hit 54 home runs this year, good for 20th in the big leagues.
The Giants have lost 4 games in a row, including a 3-game weekend sweep by the Yankees. They’ll be putting out their A lineup most likely to try to snap that bad streak. So far this season, Nelson has been worse at home than he has been on the road, so that’s a boost for the Giants’ offense.
If Soler can stay hot like he has been, he could power the Giants out of this mini-slump. First pitch is set for 9:40 p.m. ET and the game can be seen on FS1.

The San Francisco Giants will be facing off against the Arizona Diamondbacks on June 3 in what promises to be an exciting matchup between two National League West rivals. Both teams are coming off strong performances in their previous games and will be looking to continue their winning streaks.
The Giants will be sending their ace, Kevin Gausman, to the mound to start the game. Gausman has been one of the most consistent pitchers for the Giants this season, boasting a 6-0 record with a 1.40 ERA. He has been dominant on the mound, striking out batters with ease and keeping opposing hitters off balance. Gausman will look to continue his stellar performance against the Diamondbacks and give his team a chance to win.
On the other side, the Diamondbacks will counter with their own ace, Madison Bumgarner. Bumgarner, a former Giant, has had a solid season so far with a 4-4 record and a 4.53 ERA. He has shown flashes of his former self, but has also struggled at times with consistency. Bumgarner will be looking to have a strong outing against his former team and help the Diamondbacks secure a victory.
In terms of offense, both teams have been performing well recently. The Giants have been led by the hot bat of Buster Posey, who is hitting .328 with 10 home runs and 23 RBIs. The Diamondbacks, on the other hand, have been getting production from Ketel Marte, who is hitting .333 with 7 home runs and 24 RBIs. It will be interesting to see which team’s offense can come out on top in this matchup.
As for predictions, this game has all the makings of a close contest between two evenly matched teams. Both starting pitchers have the ability to dominate on the mound, and both offenses have been producing runs at a high rate. In the end, I believe the Giants will come out on top in a close game, with Kevin Gausman leading the way with another strong performance on the mound. Final score prediction: Giants 4, Diamondbacks 3.
