In the NFL, losing comes with a silver lining: the Tennessee Titans now have the No. 1 pick in April’s NFL Draft. The Titans have already had an active offseason, firing GM Ran Carthon after just two years. Tennessee head coach Brian Callahan is already on record saying the team needs offensive line help, but we know Tennessee will be tempted to trade or take a quarterback at No. 1. And for now, Miami quarterback Cam Ward has surged to the top of the board as the favorite to go first over Colorado’s amazing tandem of quarterback Shedeur Sanders and DB/WR Travis Hunter.

Sanders was -180 in the NFL draft odds at FanDuel two weeks ago, with Ward second and Hunter third, but perhaps last impressions were meaningful. Sanders and Hunter were both less than impressive in Colorado’s bowl loss to BYU, while Ward was the talk of bowl season after playing for a half in Miami’s eventual loss to Iowa State. There was controversy over Ward’s decision and whether it was planned and whether it was another brick in the wall of college athletics. Now that the NFL draft order is set, we know the Titans need a QB, and the early momentum belongs to Ward.

Teen Titans Go Nowhere

The Tennessee Titans highlight film for the 2024 NFL season will be pretty brief. Hey, the punter, Ryan Stonehouse made the Pro Bowl as an alternate and safety Amani Hooker had five picks, and that’s about it.

Young quarterback Will Levis made 12 starts and threw 13 touchdowns and 12 picks, which is almost hard to do in the NFL these days. His QBR rating was 27.6, dead last in the NFL this season. It was 10 points lower than Gardner Minshew.

So the Titans need a reboot at QB and really all over. Levis doesn’t look like he has the mental focus to play quarterback. He’s athletic, yes, and a good arm, yes, but the mistakes he made early in the season doomed him and his fate.

It is true though that the Titans need more than a QB, but nothing excites a fan base more then a stud QB getting picked at the top.

The Case for No. 1

Ward was a stud for two years at Washington State before transferring to Miami for this season. His numbers were wow, 4313 yards passing, 39 touchdowns, and he went through a stretch where he led the U to close wins over Cal, Va. Tech and Louisville. He’s 6-2, 223 pounds (we will see if that is legit), and could be the next Lamar Jackson. Maybe.

Then there’s Sanders, he’s listed at 6-2, 216 pounds. He’s much more of a scrambler than Ward. He was sacked a whopping 42 times (Ward just 22), but was fourth in the nation in yards at 4,134 and 37 touchdowns. He’s going to be the most intriguing prospect in the Draft because of the connection to his Dad.

Travis Hunter is the reigning Heisman Trophy winner, after playing two ways for the Buffs. There’s no doubt he’s a pro, but where, and how much? Does he play DB or WR?

Any Takers?

Tennessee could always trade the No. 1 pick. You know there will be other teams in the market for a QB, or maybe a team like the Giants or Saints will fall in love with one of the QBs and put a package together for Ward or Sanders.

Tennessee still needs a GM to make this decision. It’s the biggest one in the NFL Draft.

In the lead-up to the upcoming NFL Draft, there has been a shift in the conversation surrounding who will be selected as the #1 pick. While Shedeur Sanders, son of NFL legend Deion Sanders, was initially seen as the frontrunner for the top spot, recent developments have catapulted Cam Ward to the forefront as the favorite.

Ward, a standout quarterback from a small college program, has been turning heads with his impressive performances at pre-draft workouts and interviews. His combination of size, arm strength, and football IQ has caught the attention of scouts and analysts alike, leading many to believe that he has the potential to be a franchise-changing player at the next level.

On the other hand, Sanders, who had been generating buzz as a top prospect due to his pedigree and natural talent, has faced some scrutiny over his lack of experience against top competition. While he has shown flashes of brilliance on the field, there are concerns about his ability to translate his skills to the NFL level.

As a result, Ward has emerged as the favorite to be selected as the #1 pick in the upcoming draft. His rise to prominence is a testament to his hard work and dedication to his craft, and he has proven that he has what it takes to succeed at the highest level of football.

Of course, nothing is set in stone until draft day, and there is still plenty of time for things to change. But as it stands now, Cam Ward has surpassed Shedeur Sanders as the favorite to hear his name called first when the draft kicks off. It will be exciting to see how things unfold in the coming weeks leading up to the big day.
