It’s only fitting that the top two teams in the conference duke it out in the Big East Conference Tournament final, as the Creighton Bluejays (24-9, 15-5 Big East) battle the St John’s Red Storm (29-4, 18-2 Big East).

The Johnnies have been rolling, with just a single loss in their last 19, while the Bluejays have won four in a row. SJU enters Saturday as the betting favorites when this one tips off at 6:30pm ET from Madison Square Garden in New York. FOX will be carrying the broadcast coverage.

Creighton knocked out 2-time national champ Connecticut 71-62 in the semifinals Friday night to punch their ticket to the tournament final. This, after opening the tourney with an 85-81 2OT marathon victory over DePaul.

Senior guard Jamiya Neal tied for the team-high with 19 points, after Neal had finished in single-digit scoring in four of his last six games. Jasen Green went even a step higher, setting a season-best with 19 points, after scoring 21 points total over the previous five games.

The Red Storm have hardly been challenged in the Big East Tournament. They destroyed Marquette 79-63, this after dispatching Butler 78-57. It was a group effort against Butler, with RJ Luis Jr scoring 20, and Aaron Scott and Kadary Richmond chipping in 15 apiece. Against the Golden Eagles, it was a one-man gang, as Zuby Ejiofor dropped a season-best 33 points, with Luis Jr, Scott and Richmond combining for 36 points.

The Red Storm currently own the ninth-best March Madness odds at +2500.

Creighton vs St John’s Prediction

St John’s has been a solid bet of late, going 6-2-0 against the spread during this 8-game winning streak. They have been the betting favorite in all eight.

The Johnnies boast the Big East’s best scoring defense, allowing 66.4 points per game, and rank inside the Top 20 in the nation in field goal defense, holding the opposition to 40% shooting. KenPom has them ranked first in defensive efficiency.

While the Red Storm have been mowing opponents in the Big East Tournament, they’ve had plenty of close games during this 18-1 run. Ten of their games have been settled by single digits, and the John’s own a crisp 9-1 record.

If the Red Storm continues to bring its Grade A defense — they have held four of their last five opponents to 70 points or less — I don’t see their offense seizing up like it did back in December.

Their offense has looked healthy throughout the Big East Tournament, and should be enough to push them into the winner’s circle.
