Maryland welcomed its newest online sports betting operator today.
The Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Commission today awarded an online sports betting to Bally’s Interactive Maryland after the operator successfully completed a controlled demonstration of its technology last week.

Bally Bet Live in Nine States
Bally’s successfully completed its demonstration and testing of its online sports betting platform to the MLGCC on July 25. Customers participated in live sports betting as Maryland Lottery and Gaming staff ensured the operator complied with all requirements and functioned properly.
Bally Bet is now live in the following states:
- Arizona
- Colorado
- Indiana
- Iowa
- Maryland
- Massachusetts
- New York
- Ohio
- Virginia
Maryland now has 13 live online sportsbooks and 12 live retail sportsbooks.
It remains to be seen how popular Bally Bet will be in the Old Line State. It’s struggled to gain much traction in its other eight states, consistently performing among the bottom operators in its biggest market, New York, and its second biggest market in Ohio. Maryland is a crowded market and it’s unlikely that Bally Bet finds itself as one of the top performing operators in the state anytime soon.
Bally Bet is the latest sportsbook to launch in Maryland, following behind Veterans Services Corporation. The operator held its controlled demonstrations for the MLGCA on May 24 and launched earlier this month. Veterans Services Corporation operates through Bee-Fee Limited and received a sports betting license in April 2023.
Veterans Services Corporation has run the Washington, D.C. Lottery for more than a decade.
Maryland Sports Betting Supporting Education
Bally Bet will contribute to the state’s Blueprint for Maryland’s Future Fund, which supports public education programs in the state. Through Fiscal Year 2024 (July 2023 through June 2024) the state’s sports betting program contributed $60.3 million in tax revenue to the fund.
June closed out the fiscal year with a lucrative month for the state. The Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency reported a sports betting handle of more than $384 million in June, leading to a little more than $5.72 million in sports betting tax revenue for the state.
It was the fifth most lucrative single-month tax revenue total since Maryland launched sports betting at the tail-end of 2021.
The Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency reported a total sports betting handle of $384,687,982 for June, a decrease of nearly $50 million from the previous month’s handle total. The $384.7 million in handle was an increase of 51.2% compared with the $254.5 million total reported in Jun 2023.
