Avoid These 4 Risky Bets on the 2025 Super Bowl According to Sportsbooks

Avoid These 4 Risky Bets on the 2025 Super Bowl According to Sportsbooks
  • The 2025 Super Bowl is just six hours away
  • The exposure of a certain sportsbook has them cheering very hard for an Eagles victory over the Chiefs
  • See the four bets that sportsbooks don’t want you to make before kickoff at Super Bowl 59

It’s no secret that the goal of every sportsbook is to make money. With that in mind, there is always a better/worse outcome for every sportsbook with respect to every market/prop they offer. The folks at BetMGM shared their current Super Bowl splits with SBD and noted which markets carry the most liability for their bottom line. Below, see BetMGM Super Bowl splits and the four wagers that they do not want you to bet (more) money on ahead of the 2025 Super Bowl.

#1: Chiefs to Win Super Bowl 2025

The first bet that the folks at BetMGM really want to hit is the Eagles to win/Chiefs to lose. In other words, they don’t want any more money coming in on the Kansas City moneyline.

Based on the splits shown above, you would think that BetMGM would want the Chiefs to win: after all, 57% of moneyline handle is currently on the Eagles.

But those splits omit a massive part of Super Bowl betting: the future markets.

BetMGM’s exposure on Kansas City is due to bettors wagering on KC to win over the last 12 months, combined. The two-time defending champions attracted a lot of money from the time the 2025 Super Bowl odds first opened after last year’s championship game. KC was priced at +700 at that juncture, meaning a $100 bet would profit $700 if the Chiefs win an unprecedented third straight Super Bowl crown this Sunday night.

#2: Chiefs vs Eagles Game Total Over 48.5 Points

When you take into account all North American sportsbooks, the NFL public betting splits show the majority of money on the under (48.5 points) for Super Bowl 59. But BetMGM is seeing the opposite roughly six hours from kickoff.

The betting splits at BetMGM 62% of wagers and 54% of handle on over 48.5 points.

The teams combined for 73 points when they met two seasons ago in Super Bowl 57, a narrow 38-35 Kansas City victory. But that was the only Super Bowl in the last six years to go over its total. It was also the only Super Bowl in the last four years to exceed 48.5 points.

#3: Saquon Barkley to Score a Touchdown

The anytime TD markets for Chiefs vs Eagles currently list Philadelphia’s Saquon Barkley at a short -200 price to find the end zone. That’s a short price, too short to feature in Matt McEwan’s Anytime Touchdown Scorer Bets for Super Bowl 59. Barkley always had the shortest odds to score a TD in the Chiefs vs Eagles player props, but he wasn’t always this short, opening at -175.

BetMGM (and, obviously, many other books) have taken a boat-load of cash on Barkley to score at least one touchdown, motivating moving his line all the way to -200. Barkley scored 15 TDs in 16 regular-season games (13 rushing, two receiving) but has found paydirt five times in three postseason games. After being held out of the end zone in the Eagles’ 22-10 Wild Card win over Green Bay, he scored two touchdowns in their 28-22 win over the Rams and three in their 55-23 rout of the Commanders.

#4: Yellow/Green Gatorade Bath on Winning Coach

The last prop that BetMG is pulling for is from a market that’s unique to the Super Bowl: the Super Bowl 2025 Gatorade color predictions. BetMGM opened the Gatorade odds with red/pink as the +250 favorite, but they have taken just 7% of handle on red/pink and it’s faded all the way to +700 as a result.

The color that’s getting half the Gatorade color betting handle is yellow/green. The color that the Eagles dumped on Nick Sirianni after their NFC Championship win has moved all the way from +300 second-favorite to -165 chalk.

As the excitement builds for the 2025 Super Bowl, sports bettors are eagerly looking for opportunities to place their bets and potentially win big. However, not all bets are created equal, and some can be riskier than others. Sportsbooks have already started releasing odds for the big game, and there are a few bets that experts are warning against due to their high level of risk.

1. Betting on a Longshot Team: While it can be tempting to put your money on a team with long odds in hopes of a big payout, the reality is that these teams are longshots for a reason. The odds are stacked against them for a reason, and the chances of them winning the Super Bowl are slim. It’s important to remember that betting on a longshot team is essentially throwing your money away, as the likelihood of them winning is very low.

2. Betting on a Player Prop Bet: Player prop bets can be fun and exciting, but they can also be very risky. These bets are based on individual player performances, such as how many touchdowns a quarterback will throw or how many yards a running back will rush for. While these bets can add an extra layer of excitement to the game, they are also very unpredictable and can be difficult to accurately predict. It’s important to approach player prop bets with caution and not bet more than you can afford to lose.

3. Betting on a Parlay Bet: Parlay bets involve combining multiple bets into one wager in hopes of winning a bigger payout. While parlay bets can be enticing due to the potential for a large payout, they are also very risky. The more bets you include in a parlay, the harder it becomes to win. Even if you get most of your bets right, all it takes is one wrong bet to lose the entire parlay. It’s important to approach parlay bets with caution and not get carried away with the potential for a big payday.

4. Betting on Exotic Bets: Exotic bets are bets that are not directly related to the outcome of the game, such as the length of the national anthem or the color of the Gatorade shower. While these bets can be fun and entertaining, they are also very risky. These types of bets are based on pure luck and have no real strategy behind them. It’s important to remember that these bets are purely for entertainment purposes and should not be relied upon as a source of income.

In conclusion, while betting on the Super Bowl can add excitement to the game, it’s important to approach it with caution and avoid risky bets that have a high likelihood of losing. By sticking to more traditional bets and doing thorough research before placing your wagers, you can increase your chances of winning and have a more enjoyable betting experience.
