If the Boston Celtics plan to take both games at home in their Round 1 series against the Orlando Magic, they will likely have to do it without all-star wing Jayson Tatum, who injured his wrist in Game 1. That didn’t stop the Celtics from dismantling Orlando in the opener with a 103-86 romp, with the books picking them again as a hefty home favorite on Wednesday night.

Game 2 between the Magic vs Celtics tips off at 7pm ET from TD Garden in Boston, with TNT carrying the broadcast.

Orlando Magic vs Boston Celtics Odds

Orlando is a 10.5-point road underdog in the NBA odds, including a distant +410 on the moneyline. The total checks in at lowly 197.5 points, which makes sense when you consider the Magic and Celtics ranking 1-2 in fewest points allowed per game in the NBA this season.

These teams are polar opposites in their NBA Championship odds. Boston, the defending champion, has +200 odds to repeat. – only the OKC Thunder have better title odds. The Magic, meanwhile, check in with the worst odds of any NBA playoff team in the field, a massive +150000 underdog.

As mentioned, the only injury concern is Tatum, who landed awkwardly on his wrist in Game 1, and prompted one of the most bizarre settings on any playoff front this year, with head coach Joe Mazzulla holding back the training staff from tending to the fallen star, and screaming “get up!”

When asked what that was about post-game, Mazzulla simply answered “love.” Tatum is considered doubtful for Wednesday.

Orlando Magic vs Boston Celtics Picks

  • Magic vs Celtics pick: Under 197.5 points (-110)

You would think a game where the frontcourt tandem of Paolo Banchero, who went for 36 points, 11 rebounds and four assists, and Franz Wagner, who dropped 23 points and five assists would have been a great night for the Orlando Magic.

Unfortunately, there was not enough help across the rest of the roster, who combined for just 27 points, as Orlando mustered just 86 in their Game 1 loss to the Celtics.

The rest of the starters — Wendell Carter Jr, Cory Joseph and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope — scored just 10 points on 4-for-12 shooting, while the bench could only contribute 17 points.

This is not a new problem for Orlando: they’re the top scoring defense in the NBA during the regular season, but put up just 105.4 points per contest, which ranked 28th in the NBA.

ORL vs BOS Game 1 Statistics

Boston’s depth, highly lauded as its biggest strength, shined through in Game 1, with unsung hero Derrick White pouring in a team-high 30 points, while Payton Pritchard came off the bench to score 19, topping the Magic bench himself by two points.

That helped offset pedestrian evenings from Jaylen Brown and Tatum, who combined for 33 points on a dismal 14-for-36 from the field.

Orlando leads the league in points allowed at 105.5 points, but their shooting splits are in the bottom half of the league, and that showed in Game 1. Boston shot 45.1% from the field, including a blistering 16-for-37 from 3-point range, a 43.2% clip.

With Tatum dinged up, this one has the makings of a rock fight again. These teams have gone under the total in eight of the last 10 head-to-heads.

With defense a major point of emphasis for both teams, who ranked 29-30 in pace during the regular season, expect another slugfest in pivotal Game 2.

Magic vs Celtics prop bet: Holiday Over 1.5 three-pointers (-115)

Jrue Holiday took only six shots in Game 1, and all his buckets came from 3-point range, drilling 3-for-4 for nine points.

There’s not one ace scorer among the wing-guard players on the Magic, so Holiday is really on cruise control in this series, letting the game come to him and, with so many quality players in Boston’s rotation, not needing to force anything.

Boston’s free-flowing offense means seeking out the best shot, and everyone gets a look, depending on where the ball swings to.

Holiday has hit at least two triples in six of his last eight games, and I expect him to contribute again on Wednesday.
