Two teams currently in first place in their division continue their series tonight in Cleveland. The Orioles (65-45) play the Guardians (66-42) at Progressive Field at 7:10 ET on Friday night.

Before losing to the Guardians yesterday, the Orioles won four of their last five games. Cleveland has now won five of their last six games, so both teams are hot heading into tonight’s game.

Orioles vs Guardians Picks

Dean Kremer takes the mound for the Orioles on Friday Night. In his last start, Kremer pitched six innings, allowed one earned run, and struck out seven. In the month of July, Kremer had a 3.96 ERA with a 1-3 record through five starts. This season, he has a 3.05 ERA on the road, which is significantly better than his 5.40 ERA in Baltimore.

Carlos Carrasco has struggled this season, and the Guardians have not played well in his starts. They have lost the last three games in which Carrasco started. He had a 6.84 ERA in July and gave up six earned runs in each of his last two starts.

The Guardians need Carrasco to eat innings, so they can get to their bullpen who leads the MLB in ERA. Even when the bullpen comes in, they will have their work cut out for them against Gunnar Henderson and the rest of Baltimore’s lineup.

Dean Kremer vs Carlos Carrasco

4-7 Record 3-9
4.20 ERA 5.68
1.23 WHIP 1.40
73 SO 79

Kremer is the better pitcher and has been much better on the road than at home this season. Carrasco has struggled all season, especially in his last couple of starts. He now faces the potent Orioles lineup that leads the MLB in home runs and is sixth in batting average. Cleveland’s offense struggled last month, but they started August off right by scoring 10 runs yesterday. With these two pitchers on the mound, we should see more than nine runs come across home.

Orioles vs Guardians Best Bets:

Orioles ML (-112)

Over 9 Runs (-110)

Baltimore Orioles vs Cleveland Guardians Odds

Team Spread Moneyline Total
Baltimore Orioles -1.5 (+140) -112 Over 9 (-110)
Cleveland Guardians +1.5 (-166) -108 Under 9 (-110)

Odds as of August 2 at DraftKings Sportsbook.

The Orioles are slight road favorites in what is essentially a pick ’em. Runs are expected to come aplenty in this one as the O/U is set at 9. The over is 13-2 in Baltimore’s last 15 games. That is just another reason to like the over in Cleveland tonight.

Orioles vs Guardians Player Props

My favorite player props in this matchup are:

Carlos Carrasco Under 15.5 Outs (-130)

Carrasco has recorded 16 outs just once in his last three starts and has not hit that number in eight of his last 11 appearances. Now facing the Orioles, I do not see Carrasco going past the fifth inning. If the game is high-scoring and close like it should be, Cleveland will be eager to get to their bullpen. At -130 odds, there is tremendous value in betting Carrasco under 15.5 outs.

Gunnar Henderson Over 1.5 Total Bases (-115)

Henderson is one of the top hitters in the game right now and is a perfect 3 for 3 against Carrasco in his career. He has hit two singles and one home run off Carrasco, and that is why I like for Henderson to get over 1.5 total bases tonight. Henderson is on an eight-game hitting streak and is batting .455 in his last three games. He should have a big game tonight.
