Chiefs and Lions Favored in Super Bowl 59 Odds Leading into Wild Card Weekend

The 2025 NFL playoff bracket is set and Wild Card weekend (Jan. 11-13) is just around the corner. With the race for the Lombardi Trophy officially down to just 14 teams, the Super Bowl 59 odds have been updated accordingly. The table below lists the current Super Bowl odds for all remaining teams.

Altogether, five teams have odds of +700 (12.50% implied win probability) or shorter, clearly separating that quintet from the rest of the field, which is all +1700 (5.56% implied win probability) or longer.

Lions Back to Super Bowl Favorites After Claiming NFC #1 Seed

Heading into Sunday Night Football in Week 18, it was the Kansas City Chiefs (15-2, 8-9 ATS) who were sitting atop the Super Bowl odds as the Detroit Lions (15-2, 12-5) still had to contend with the Minnesota Vikings for the #1 seed in the NFC, which comes not only with home-field advantage throughout the NFC playoffs, but also the only bye to the Divisional Round.

But Dan Campbell’s team dominated the Vikings (31-9), getting a very encouraging performance from its injury-plagued defense in the process. The victory cemented Detroit as the NFC #1 seed and gives them a much-needed extra week of rest before their first postseason game, which will be at home on either Saturday, January 18, or Sunday, January 19.

The Lions head into the playoffs with +280 odds to win their first Lombardi Trophy in team history. The team opened as a +1200 bet when the odds were first released almost a year ago. Detroit first overtook the Chiefs as outright favorites in late November and those two teams have flipped back and forth as the first and second-favorites a few times since.

Steelers Seen as Biggest Super Bowl 59 Longshot

The biggest underdog on Wild Card weekend, the Pittsburgh Steelers (10-7, 11-6 ATS) are also the single-biggest longshot to win it all among the 14 playoff teams, priced at +10000. Pittsburgh is catching 9.5 points on the road at the division-rival Baltimore Ravens (11-6, 10-6-1 ATS) in the NFL odds for Wild Card weekend. Mike Tomlin’s managed to edge out the Ravens (18-16) at home in Week 11 but was thoroughly outclassed when the teams met in Baltimore in Week 16, losing 34-17.

The Steelers enter the postseason losers of four straight overall. No other playoff team has lost more than one game in a row while six of the 14 teams are on multi-game win streaks.

Most-recently, Pittsburgh fell 19-17 to the Bengals at home in Week 18, mustering just 193 yards of total offense against a Cincinnati defense that finished the season eight-worst in both yards and points per game.

In short, there is ample reason for concern in the Steel City.

Ravens, Bills, Eagles Round Out Legitimate Contenders

According to oddsmakers at least, there is a clear top-five favorites in the 2025 Super Bowl odds. In addition to the Lions and Chiefs, the Ravens, Buffalo Bills (13-4, 10-7ATS), and Philadelphia Eagles (14-3, 11-6 ATS) are all +700 or shorter, while the other nine teams in the postseason field are +1700 or longer.

Not entirely coincidental, those three teams also have the three favorites in the NFL MVP odds: Buffalo QB Josh Allen (-313), Baltimore QB Lamar Jackson (+234), and Philadelphia RB Saquon Barkley (+1750). Barkley, who finished the season with 2,005 rushing yards, would likely have shorter odds if he wasn’t held out of Philly’s otherwise-meaningless Week 18 game against the Giants; the Penn State product finished the season just 101 yards shy of breaking Eric Dickerson’s single-season rushing record (2,105 yards).

As the NFL playoffs kick off with Wild Card Weekend, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Detroit Lions are emerging as the early favorites to make it to Super Bowl 59. Both teams have shown impressive performances throughout the regular season, solidifying their positions as top contenders in the league.
