The Ottawa Senators (13-13-2) head to PNC Arena to take on the Carolina Hurricanes (18-9-1) in Friday night NHL action on December 13, 2024. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 PM Eastern Time, with national coverage provided by NHL Network.

The Hurricanes enter as -205 home favorites, while the over/under is set at 6 goals. Can the high-powered Canes offense led by Martin Necas and Sebastian Aho take advantage of Ottawa’s shaky defense and goaltending?

Here is our Senators vs Hurricanes prediction for Friday night.

Senators vs Hurricanes Prediction

I’m backing the Hurricanes to secure a multi-goal victory over the Senators at home. Carolina has been one of the NHL’s best teams this season, especially on home ice where they boast an 11-3 record.

The Canes are getting stellar play from forwards Martin Necas (43 points in 28 games) and Sebastian Aho (30 points) to power the league’s 4th-ranked offense in goals per game (3.71).

Carolina also has a major special teams advantage in this matchup. The Hurricanes rank 3rd on the power play (28.3%) and 3rd in penalty killing (84%), while the Sens are just 24th on the PK (75.6%). Expect Carolina to capitalize if Ottawa’s lack of discipline sends them to the sin bin.

The Hurricanes have had the Senators’ number in recent meetings, winning six of the last seven head-to-head, including a 4-0 shutout in Raleigh back on November 16th. Carolina has outscored Ottawa 20-6 over their current four-game win streak in the series.

While Ottawa is playing better of late, winning three of four, those victories all came on home ice. The Sens are just 4-8 on the road this season and have dropped three of their last four away from Canadian Tire Centre.

Ottawa’s defensive issues (3.07 goals against per game) and inconsistent goaltending from Linus Ullmark (.903 save percentage) don’t bode well against a lethal Carolina attack.

With the Hurricanes listed as high as -210 favorites, there’s not much value on the moneyline. Instead, I recommend laying the -1.5 puck line at plus-money (+124), as four of Carolina’s last six wins over the Sens have come by multiple goals. Ride the hotter team and back the Canes to win comfortably.

Friday NHL Pick:

  • Hurricanes Puck Line -1.5 (+124 at DraftKings)

Senators vs Hurricanes Odds

Team Spread Moneyline Total
OTT Senators +1.5 (-148) +170 Over 6.0 (-115)
CAR Hurricanes -1.5 (+124) -205 Under 6.0 (-105)

The Hurricanes are currently solid favorites to win this one, with the moneyline set at -205. This means that a $205 bet on Carolina would return a profit of $100 if they emerge victorious. On the flip side, the Senators are road underdogs at +170, offering a potential return of $170 on a $100 wager.

Carolina is listed at -1.5 (+124) for those interested in the puck line, while Ottawa is at +1.5 (-148). A bet on the Canes puck line would require them to win by two or more goals, but it would provide a more appealing payout than the moneyline. The Sens puck line bet would cash if they either win outright or lose by a single goal.

The total (over/under) for this game is set at 6 goals, with the over at -115 and the under at -105. This suggests a slight lean from oddsmakers towards a higher-scoring affair.

Both teams are coming off of strong performances in their previous games, with the Senators looking to continue their winning streak and the Hurricanes hoping to bounce back from a tough loss.

In terms of predictions, this game is shaping up to be a close one. The Senators have been playing well as of late, with their offense firing on all cylinders and their defense holding strong. However, the Hurricanes are a tough team to beat at home, and they will be looking to make a statement in front of their fans.

As for the odds, the Hurricanes are currently favored to win this game. They have a strong roster filled with talented players, and they have been playing well at home this season. The Senators, on the other hand, will need to bring their A-game if they want to come out on top.

When it comes to player props, there are a few key players to keep an eye on in this matchup. For the Senators, look for forward Jean-Gabriel Pageau to continue his hot streak. He has been a scoring machine as of late and will be a key player for Ottawa in this game. On the Hurricanes side, keep an eye on defenseman Dougie Hamilton. He has been a force on both ends of the ice this season and will be a key player for Carolina in this matchup.

Overall, this game has all the makings of a close and exciting matchup. Both teams have been playing well as of late, and it should be a hard-fought battle from start to finish.
