The Atlanta Falcons and Miami Dolphins kick off their preseasons at 7 p.m. ET Friday evening from Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.

Don’t expect a good look at any starters quite yet, however. Chatter out of camp, where the Dolphins and Falcons were holding a joint practice, indicates that neither unit is likely to play starters. If a few starters do see the field, it’ll probably be only for a drive or 2 as is custom with the first preseason game. In other words, expect a lot of Michael Penix and Mike White.

Atlanta Falcons vs Miami Dolphins Picks, Prediction

  • Dolphins +130
  • Under 38.5

The home team has dominated both preseason matchups so far, and in a game where it’s nearly impossible to predict anything of substance that’s always going to be the best play – especially whereas the Dolphins are considered the underdog tonight.

I’m sure Penix will be a quality QB at some point in his career, but I have more faith in Mike White to run a sound offensive gameplan against the Falcons 2nd and 3rd team. I’ll go with the veteran every time in this scenario, to be frank.

At the same time, the under seems like the obvious play here. Defense has won the preseason thus far, and both teams lose their offensive firepower without starters on the field. Miami should still have plenty of speed and just has the better matchup in this game.

NFL preseason games have flown well under their totals so far. Both games Thursday went under, and the total set for his game is fairly high at O/U 38.

Miami Dolphins vs. Atlanta Falcons Names to Watch

  • Michael Penix Jr., Atlanta QB
  • Chop Robinson, Miami Edge
  • Jaylen Wright, Miami RB

Penix is the obvious candidate here. The Falcons newly-acquired QB came as a bit of a surprise to everyone when he was selected No. 8 overall in May, but it’s hard to dismiss the talent he has with his left arm. Penix led Washington to the national title game last season and has immense power. We’ll get a first look at Penix against some higher competition tonight, so Atlanta’s success will be directly linked to his Friday evening.

Robinson was Miami’s top draftee in 2024 and should be a force off the edge. We’ll see if he can get to his the fellow rookie QB and make his life difficult for a few quarters.

Wright was also selected by Miami in this recent draft, and he embodies everything the Dolphins want to be on offense. Speedy, quick, however you want to frame it: Jaylen Wright is fast, folks. The Dolphins offense shouldn’t skip a beat going from Achane/Mostert to Wright this season if reports out of practice are to be believed.

The Atlanta Falcons and Miami Dolphins are set to kick off their preseason campaigns on August 9th in what promises to be an exciting matchup. Both teams will be looking to evaluate their rosters and make final decisions on their starting lineups before the regular season begins.

The odds for this game currently favor the Falcons, with most sportsbooks listing them as the favorites to win. However, preseason games can be unpredictable, as teams often use them to experiment with different lineups and strategies. This makes picking a winner a bit more challenging than usual.

For those looking to place a bet on this game, there are a few factors to consider. The Falcons have a more experienced roster overall, with quarterback Matt Ryan leading the way. However, the Dolphins have some promising young talent on their team, including quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who will be looking to make a strong impression in his second season in the NFL.

In terms of betting picks, it may be wise to consider the underdog in this matchup. The Dolphins have shown flashes of potential in recent years and could surprise the Falcons with a strong performance. Additionally, preseason games are often decided by the depth of a team’s roster, so it may be worth looking at which team has the stronger backups.

As for the best bets for this game, taking the under on the total points scored may be a safe option. Preseason games tend to be lower-scoring affairs, as teams are still working out the kinks in their offenses. Additionally, betting on the Dolphins to cover the spread could also be a good choice, as they have the potential to keep this game close.

Overall, the Falcons vs Dolphins preseason matchup on August 9th promises to be an intriguing game with plenty of betting opportunities. It will be interesting to see how both teams perform and which players step up to make an impact. As always, it’s important to do your research and consider all factors before placing a bet on this or any other game.
