After running away with a 9-5 win in the series opener, the Texas A&M Aggies () can claim the best-of-three College World Series final with another win over the Tennessee Volunteers (58-13) on Sunday afternoon at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, Nebraska.

But with Aggie ace Ryan Prager used up on Saturday, the Volunteers are heavily favored to answer back in the Tennessee vs Texas A&M Game 2 odds.

The Volunteers entered the best-of-three final as a -205 favorite to win its first national championship, with the Aggies at +160 to win their first natty.

On Saturday, A&M jumped all over Tennessee pitchers Chris Stamos and AJ Causey, tagging them for eight hits and five runs in the first four innings while building a 7-2 lead that was never seriously threatened. Aggie ace Ryan Prager managed 4.0 innings of eight-hit, two-run ball with six Ks.

Both teams had two homers on Saturday, and A&M only had one more hit than the Vols (13 to 12), but A&M played considerably better defensively. UT committed three costly errors that directly contributed to a big five-run third inning for the Aggies.

While neither starter has officially been announced, the pitching matchup for Game 2 should favor the Vols, who have number-one starter Drew Beam rested and ready.

Beam was rock-solid in his last start, going 5.0 innings last Saturday against UNC, allowing just one run on four hits and a walk with seven strikeouts.

The Aggies could turn to number-two starter Justin Lamkin on 3.5 days’ rest, but it’s more likely they’ll go with Shane Sdao and save Lamkin for a potential Game 3 on Monday.

Sdao started the series-clinching game against Oregon in the Super Regional on June 9 and the last game of the regional against Louisiana on June 2 with varying results. He went 5.1 innings in the latter allowing just one run on six hits with six Ks, but he was hammered by the Ducks, recording just one out while giving up two runs on three hits before getting pulled.

Drew Beam vs Shane Sdao

9-2 Record 5-1
98.1 IP 48.1
4.30 ERA 2.61
1.274 WHIP 0.993
8.1 K/9 10.2
3.64-to-1 K-to-BB Ratio 6.11-to-1

Prior to Saturday’s Aggie victory, Tennessee had won the only previous meeting between the teams this season, edging A&M 7-4 in the SEC Tournament.

Tennessee vs Texas A&M Prediction

Texas A&M’s pitching staff is more than just Prager, and has been one of the best in the country all year, but there will be a noticeable decline in the quality of stuff Tennessee sees on Sunday compared to Saturday. Meanwhile, UT has its two best arms – Beam and Zander Sechrist – lined up for Games 2 and 3, and arguably its two best relievers (Aaron Combs and Nate Snead) fresh as well.

As long as the defense plays up to par – which is a big if – the Vols should answer back with a decisive victory on Sunday.

TENN vs TEXAS A&M picks:

  • Tennessee -1.5 (-154)
  • Over 10.5 runs (-130)
