Another Windy City Showdown starts on Tuesday when the Chicago White Sox (15-45, 5-24 away) meet the Chicago Cubs (29-31, 16-13 home) at Wrigley Field at 7:10 pm CT/8:10 pm ET.

With the Chi-Sox sitting deadlast in the majors in win percentage (.250), road wins (5), and run differential (-138), the White Sox vs Cubs odds for Tuesday massively favor the Northsiders.

White Sox vs Cubs Odds

Team Moneyline Runline Total
Chicago White Sox  (Flexen) +240 +1.5 (+125) O 9.5 (-110)
Chicago Cubs (Imanaga) -300 -1.5 (-150) U 9.5 (-110)

The Cubs are massive -300 home favorites in Tuesday’s MLB odds and -150 to win by multiple runs, despite being the home team. The White Sox come back as +240 underdogs while the game total is sitting at 9.5 with -110 odds both ways.

The Cubs and White Sox have identical 27-30-3 over/under records after 60 games.

During an ugly 2-9 stretch, the Cubs have fallen seven games back of Milwaukee for top spot in the NL Central and are now +400 longshots in the MLB division odds. But the weather is still comparatively sunny for the Cubs compared to the White Sox, who look like a sure-fire lock to stay under their win total of 61.5.

Chris Flexen vs Shota Imanaga

2-5 Record 6-6
5.50 ERA 1.86
4.41 xERA 2.99
1.41 WHIP 1.00
18.0% K% 25.5%

The starting pitchers for Tuesday are a complete mismatch. Shota Imanaga, who has a miniscule 1.86 ERA and has become the favorite in the NL Rookie of Year odds, goes for the Cubs, while Chris Flexen and his bloated 5.50 ERA are on the mound for the White Sox.

Making matters worse for the Southsiders, Imanaga has been even better at home (1.20 ERA) than on the road.

However, he did show sings of slowing down last time out when he was roughed up for seven runs on eight hits over just 4.1 innings at Milwaukee, by far his worst outing of the season. That was the first time he’s allowed more than two earned runs in a game. That rough start dropped him to third in the NL Cy Young odds at most sportsbooks, behind Zach Wheeler and Tyler Glasnow.

Flexen and his lifetime 5.00 ERA have been as-advertised once again this season for a floundering White Sox team. The 29-year-old righty has as 5.50 ERA and 1.41 WHIP with just 42 strikeouts in 54 innings. He’s already issued 22 walks and has just a 1.9-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

While he only gave up two runs over 5.0 innings last time out against the Blue Jays, he allowed five hits and issued five free passes for a WHIP of 2.00.

There isn’t a ton of history between Flexen and the Cubs hitters, but what history there is favors the Cubbies. In 50 total at-bats, the Cubs lineup has a .380/.456/.480 slashline against Flexen with as many walks as strikeouts (seven). That said, no one has taken him deep and he’s only surrendered three doubles and one triple.

Dansby Swanson has the best history against Flexen, going 7-for-11 (.686) with two doubles.

White Sox vs Cubs Predictions

This has blowout written all over it, except for the fact that the Cubs are currently in their worst stretch of the season. However, run prevention has been a bigger problem than run generation; the Cubs are still averaging 4.83 runs per game over their last six, despite going 2-4 in that span. With Imanaga on the mound facing a White Sox team that (a) has never seen him before and (b) has scored just 172 runs this season (47 fewer than any other team in baseball), it shouldn’t take much for the Cubs to get back in the win column, and comfortably so.

CHW vs CHC picks:

  • Cubs -2.5 (+104)
  • White Sox under 2.5 runs (+160)
