It wasn’t supposed to go this way for the Edmonton Oilers. The three previous postseasons, they dispatched of the Los Angeles Kings in the first round. Through two games of their first round battle, LA has jumped out to the 2-0 series lead.

In Game 1, the Oilers were -125 moneyline favorites, before falling 6-5, in what was nearly an epic comeback. In the second contest, the Kings were -125 to emerge victorious and they held serve, smashing Oil Country 6-2.

Puck drop for Game 3 at Rogers Place in Edmonton is scheduled for 10:00 pm ET, with coverage on TNT/truTV/Max in the United States and CBC, along with Sportsnet in Canada.

Kings vs Oilers Game 3 Odds

In the Kings vs Oilers Game 3 odds, Edmonton is a -140 moneyline favorite to climb back in the series, giving them a 58.33% implied win probability. A $140 bet would profit $100 if they’re victorious. Conversely, a $100 wager on +118 Kings would return $118.

Our SBD formula has the Kings pulling off the upset 3.29-3.08, meaning the road squad would cover the puck line, and it would go over the 6-goal total. In the 2025 Stanley Cup odds, Los Angeles’ best price can be found at BetMGM at +900, while Edmonton is +3000 at DraftKings.

Oilers Penalty Problems Proving Profound

In eliminating the Kings with five contests in the 2024 postseason, the Oilers were a perfect 12/12 on the penalty kill to really give their Pacific Division foes fits. That has drastically altered this postseason, as LA has gone 5-for-10 on the man advantage, while Edmonton hasn’t scored, a woeful 0-for-5. That’s had a huge impact on the series, with the Kings scoring 12 goals, just one fewer than the 13 they potted in five meetings last playoffs.

Edmonton’s netminder Stuart Skinner has been left out to dry, and also hasn’t made the critical huge save either. He’s given up 11 goals, just the second time in his career he’s done that in a back-to-back start stretch. He was lifted for Calvin Pickard in Game 2, who promptly gave up a goal on the first shot he faced.

Pickard gets the nod in Game 3, which isn’t totally foreign to him in the postseason for the Oilers, having started Games 4 and 5 versus Vancouver in 2024 in the second round. He won one game and lost the other, surrendering five goals on 56 shots for a solid .911 save percentage. He was replaced by Skinner for Game 6, and wasn’t called upon afterwards.

Kings vs Oilers Game 3 Predictions

LA has won four straight against their adversaries, shutting Edmonton out 3-0 April 5th and 5-0 April 14th in Edmonton, then the first two games of this series. That’s a strong sample size within the last three weeks, and now Edmonton is relying on a backup goalie for a spark. I’d prefer taking the road dogs for extra moneyline value.

As for the player props, if I’m picking LA to win, it’s a good idea to pair that with one of their players racking up points. In the first two contests, Adrian Kempe has racked up three goals and four assists for an NHL playoff tying high seven points. He has points in four straight and six of seven against the Oilers.

LA-EDM Predictions:

  • Kings ML (+118)
  • Adrian Kempe over 0.5 points (-175)
