- The Dallas Stars renew hostilities with the Colorado Avalanche for Game 2 on Monday, April 21
- The Avalanche are -148 road favorites to take a 2-0 series lead back to Colorado
- Read my Avalanche vs Stars Game 2 prediction with odds and best bet below
After the Colorado Avalanche decidedly took Game 1 to the tune of a 5-1 victory over the Dallas Stars, these two rivals are back at for Game 2 Monday night. Colorado has won three of four meetings against Dallas this year, but Dallas ousted them in the second round of last year’s playoffs. In the Stanley Cup odds, the Avs are the second choice at +600, with the Stars fading +2200 after losing the series opener on home ice.
In the regular season, Colorado was 49-29-4 for 102 points, third in the Central Division. Dallas was 50-26-6 for 106 points, second in the division. Puck drop is scheduled for 9:30 pm ET, with coverage on ESPN in the United States and Sportsnet in Canada.
Colorado Avalanche vs Dallas Stars Prediction Game 2
- Stars ML (+124 at DraftKings)
The Avalanche transformed their ability to keep the puck out of their net by trading for Mackenzie Blackwood. Prior to his arrival mid-December, the Avs were fourth worst in GAA (3.52), and since that time, second best in the NHL (2.39). That held true in Game 1, where Blackwood surrendered just one marker on 24 shots.
Despite dealing away elite forward Mikko Rantanen (who eventually was then sent to Dallas to make this a revenge series), Colorado boasts the sixth highest scoring team in hockey, led by Nathan MacKinnon. He was second in scoring with 116 points, and had two goals and one assist in Game 1. Blueliner Cale Makar led the NHL with 92 points by rearguards, and he chipped in with an assist on Saturday.
Dallas was no slouch in the regular season, ranking third in scoring and sixth in goals against. They did, however, have a concerning limp into the postseason, dropping seven straight (0-5-2). Netminder Jake Oettinger, who surrendered four goals in Game 1, allowed four or more snipes for the fourth straight start.
Avalanche vs Stars Regular Season Head-to-Head Stats
COL Avalanche vs DAL Stars Injury News
The Avalanche could potentially be getting a massive emotional lift back into their lineup, sooner, rather than later. Team captain Gabriel Landeskog, who hasn’t played since the 2022 Stanley Cup Final with a serious knee injury, has laced them up in a pair of AHL tilts and is practicing with the club. He’s an option for tonight’s tilt.
With Ross Colton leaving in the third period of Game 1 with a lower-body injury, this could signal the long awaited return of Landeskog to tap in for him.
The Stars have significant injury woes themselves, as Jason Robertson left the final game of the regular season with a knee injury, and he’s “week-to-week”. He led the team in goals with 35 and was second in points with 80. Blueliner Miro Heiskanen (knee) is considered day-to-day, and he was on the ice practicing this morning, but his status isn’t known.
The team did get a boost when Tyler Seguin came back after a 58 game absence (hip surgery), and he’s played in two tilts after missing every game following December 1st.
Avalanche vs Stars Odds Game 2
In the Avalanche vs Stars odds, Colorado are -148 favorites, but +170 to cover the puckline of -1.5 goals. The goal total is set at 6.5, with the over installed at +100. Odds courtesy of DraftKings. Playoff hockey is here! Jump over the boards with our best DraftKings promo code.
Dallas is not getting much love from the sportsbooks. It was their eighth straight loss in a Game 1, dating back to the 2022 postseason – however, they’ve been fantastic at recovering the follow battle, winning five of seven, including last year’s second round series against Colorado. Dallas would eventually win the series in six contests.
This is a bit of a leap of faith, but I like a +124 home underdog, especially a veteran laden team like Dallas that has been there, done that, in bouncing back after tough Game 1 losses.

The Colorado Avalanche and the Dallas Stars are set to face off in Game 2 of their first-round playoff series on Monday, April 21. After a thrilling Game 1 that saw the Avalanche come out on top with a 3-2 victory, both teams will be looking to make adjustments and come out with a win in Game 2.
Here is a breakdown of the lineups, predictions, and viewing information for Monday’s game:
Lineups:
Colorado Avalanche:
The Avalanche will likely stick with the same lineup that proved successful in Game 1. Look for their top line of Nathan MacKinnon, Gabriel Landeskog, and Mikko Rantanen to continue to lead the way offensively. On defense, Cale Makar and Samuel Girard will be key players to watch.
Dallas Stars:
The Stars will need more production from their top players in Game 2. Tyler Seguin, Jamie Benn, and Alexander Radulov will need to step up and provide some offense for Dallas. On defense, John Klingberg and Miro Heiskanen will be crucial in shutting down Colorado’s high-powered offense.
