The Golden State Warriors (48-34, 24-17 home, 24-17 away) finally got over the Play-In Tournament hump on Tuesday with a 121-116 win over Memphis, earning them the #7 seed in the West and setting up a best-of-seven clash with the #2 Houston Rockets (52-30, 29-12, 23-17) in the first round of the 2025 NBA playoffs.

With Steph Curry and Jimmy Butler – two of the most-proven postseason performers in NBA history – leading the charge, the Dubs have opened as big favorites in the Warriors vs Rockets series odds.

Ironically, the Warriors’ NBA Championship odds didn’t really budge after ousting the Grizzlies in the 7-vs-8 Play-In Game on Tuesday night, still sitting at +1600. The Rockets are +8000 longshots to win their first NBA title since their back-to-back championships in 1994 and 1995.

Golden State vs Houston Regular-Season Results

Golden State won three of five matchups with Houston in the regular season and covered the spread in four of five. Ironically, two of those three wins came early in the season when Steph Curry was injured and Jimmy Butler was still on the Miami Heat.

The teams split their pair of meetings (Feb. 13 and Apr. 6) in which Curry and Butler both played for the Warriors.

Four of five regular-season meetings also stayed under the total. Only the first game of the season between Houston and Golden State (a 127-121 OT victory for the Warriors) went over the total. Though it had already blown past the total of 215.5 before heading to the the extra frame tied at 119-119.

GSW vs HOU Advanced Stats

While the Rockets wound up as the #2 seed in the West, the difference between Houston and Golden State, both in terms of traditional metrics and advanced stats, is slim. Houston wound up with four more victories and a +4.5 point differential compared to +3.3 for Golden State. Their point differential mirrors their respective Net Ratings (+4.5 vs +3.2).

Warriors vs Rockets Playoff Schedule

The NBA has only released the first two days of the round-one schedule (i.e. the Game 1 date for all eight series). Warriors vs Rockets will commence on Sunday, April 20, but the dates for the remaining six games in the series are still TBD.

The Golden State Warriors are once again the favorites in the NBA playoffs as they face off against the Houston Rockets in the Western Conference semifinals. The Warriors, who have won three of the last four NBA championships, are favored to win the series and advance to the conference finals.

According to the latest odds, the Warriors are -220 favorites to win the series, meaning bettors would have to wager $220 to win $100 on a Warriors victory. The Rockets, on the other hand, are +180 underdogs, meaning a $100 bet on Houston would win $180 if they were to pull off the upset.

The Warriors are led by their star-studded lineup of Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green, who have proven time and time again that they are a force to be reckoned with in the playoffs. The team finished the regular season with a 57-25 record, good for the top seed in the Western Conference.

The Rockets, on the other hand, finished the regular season with a 53-29 record, earning them the fourth seed in the West. Led by former MVP James Harden and veteran point guard Chris Paul, the Rockets are looking to avenge last year’s playoff defeat at the hands of the Warriors.

The series schedule is as follows:

Game 1: Sunday, April 28th at Golden State
Game 2: Tuesday, April 30th at Golden State
Game 3: Saturday, May 4th at Houston
Game 4: Monday, May 6th at Houston
Game 5 (if necessary): Wednesday, May 8th at Golden State
Game 6 (if necessary): Friday, May 10th at Houston
Game 7 (if necessary): Sunday, May 12th at Golden State

With home-court advantage and a roster full of playoff experience, it’s no surprise that the Warriors are favored over the Rockets in this series. However, anything can happen in the playoffs, and the Rockets will be looking to prove the oddsmakers wrong and pull off the upset. Basketball fans can expect an exciting and competitive series between these two powerhouse teams.
