Top Master’s Live Betting Opportunities After Round 1

Since 1995, 25 of the 26 Masters winners were T-15 or better after Round 1. Since 2005, 18 of the past 19 champions have been T-10 or better after Thursday, with each of those golfers finishing within four shots of the lead.

Given the predictiveness of Augusta National, we should take those numbers seriously when trying to pick a winner after 18 holes. Only six golfers are within four shots of Justin Rose’s lead at -7, with Tyrrell Hatton and Corey Conners being the lone two with odds north of +650. Scottie Scheffler is the live favorite at +200, but I’d prefer to hunt value in the finishing position market instead at this point.

My two favorite bets are both in the top-ten finish market. First up is Patrick Reed, who sports +300 odds to finish 10th or better in the latest Masters odds. He was +525 in that market before the tournament began, and should likely be shorter given his Masters pedigree and his Round 1 performance.

Masters Live Bet #1: Patrick Reed Top-Ten Finish

• Patrick Reed Top-10 (+300 at DraftKings)

The 2018 champ shot a one-under par round of 71, to sit T-11. He split 13 of 14 fairways, and hit 13 of 18 greens. Reed’s putting actually held him back, something that isn’t likely to continue. He owns a world class short game, ranking 11th in the field on the greens in his last 24 Major Championship rounds.

Reed’s course history at Augusta National is very strong, finishing T-10 or better in three of his past five starts, in addition to his win seven years ago. He narrowly missed out on a top-10 result last year, finishing one shot off the pace. Reed has shot 70 or better 15 times at the Masters, pulling off the feat in Round 2 in back-to-back years.

Based on his ball striking, he should flirt with that number tomorrow, assuming his putting regresses back positively to the norm. That will ultimately shorten his Top-10 price, making the number today look like a bargain.

Masters Live Bet #1: Min Woo Lee Top-Ten Finish

• Min Woo Lee Top-10 (+250 at DraftKings)

My next Masters live bet, also in the Top-10 market, is Min Woo Lee at +250. The Aussie entered the Masters in razor sharp form, winning the Houston Open, and finishing 20th at The Players. He was incredibly solid after an opening bogey, finishing with a one-under par round of 71.

After that slight miscue at the first, Lee proceeded to hit 15 of the next 17 greens. He couldn’t get the flat stick going, normally his calling card, but he kept giving himself chances. Lee is third on the PGA Tour over the last 24 rounds in strokes gained putting, so we should definitely expect more putts to drop on Friday.

He’s finished T-22 or better in two of three Masters starts, and now that he’s got a feel for this course his next hurdle will be cracking the top-10. I believe his game is in the right place to do so, and his current T-10 odds aren’t that far off his pre-tournament number. Given that we’ve already seen him look comfortable on the big stage, I expect him to continue playing well over the weekend.
