To no one’s surprise, Cooper Flagg has the highest scoring prop in this Final Four showdown at 18.5 points, though it’s a number he has topped just once in the tournament, and just twice in the last 11 games.
He’s tied with teammate Khaman Maluach for the most rebounds too, at 7.5. The star freshman also has the highest assist prop at 4.5, one better than Houston’s Milos Uzan.
Houston vs Duke Prop Bet #1: Count on Kon
Obviously, all eyes are on super frosh Cooper Flagg, who has carried his team to the Final Four even after injuring his ankle in the ACC Tournament, and his participation is looking a little dicey.
And while he has certainly delivered, Houston’s defense should be keying on him — leaving the door open for arguably the best Blue Devil in the last two rounds.
Kon Knueppel, the less heralded freshman in this class, has topped the 20-point plateau in both the Sweet 16 and the Elite Eight, and he’s got a generous scoring line of 14.5 points in the semifinal matchup.
Save for a couple of blowout wins to start March Madness, Knueppel has scored at least 15 points in 12 of his last 15 starts.
Over his last two games, Knueppel has shot 50% from the field, including 4-for-6 from 3-point range, and he’s been making hay at the stripe, getting to the line 16 times, with just a single miss.
I don’t think a singular standout performance is going to take down Houston Saturday: it’s going to take a lot of good games from a roster that can deliver that. Look for Knueppel to lead that charge.
Houston vs Duke prop pick: Knueppel Over 14.5 points (+100 at Bet365)
Houston vs Duke Prop Bet #2: Containing Cryer
Senior LJ Cryer has had a pretty strong tournament, leading the Cougards in scoring, including 17 in the Elite Eight matchup to down the Tennessee Volunteers.
For the tournament, Cryer is averaging 16.8 points, hitting double digits in three of the four rounds, though he’s shot it at a poor 36.8% from the field. He’s made up for it with a crisp 39.4% mark from 3-point range.
He’s a big reason why the Cougars are second in the nation in 3-point shooting at 39.7%.
However, Cryer fits the height and profile of another prolific scorer that the Blue Devils just saw in the Elite Eight, and Alabama’s Mark Sears had a nightmare of a game against Duke’s defense, which sits at a Top-5 rating at KenPom.
Sears, who had scored in double digits in all three rounds prior to facing Duke and averaging 22.7 points per game, was held to a dismal six points on 2-for-12 shooting and five turnovers. They held the highest scoring team in the nation to just 65 points.
The Blue Devils’ hype on Flagg and offensive play garners most of the highlights, but their defense should shine again, and Cryer will feel the effects of that Saturday.
Houston vs Duke prop pick: Cryer Under 15.5 points (-105 at Bet365)
