- The Boston Celtics host the Dallas Mavericks in Game 1 of the 2024 NBA Finals on Thursday at 8:30 p.m. ET on ABC.

It’s all come to this. At 76-20 on the season (including playoffs) Boston is one of the most-dominant teams in NBA history. The Mavericks were the No. 5 seed in the Western Conference Playoffs and pulled off 3-straight upsets to reach the Finals. Can Luka Doncic and company pull off one more? Or will Jayson Tatum and the Celtics hang an 18th banner when all is said and done? Tune in to ABC at 8:30 p.m. ET on Thursday night to see how Game 1 plays out.
Best Mavericks vs Celtics Same-Game Parlay for Game 1
- Boston -6.5
- Jayson Tatum over 9.5 rebounds
- Luka Doncic over 49.5 points+rebounds+assists
If you think the Celtics will win Game 1, it makes sense to take them to win big. Boston has only had 3 games decided by less than 10 points this postseason, going 3-0 in those contests. Otherwise, it has been a lot of blowouts for Joe Mazzulla’s squad. To the Mavericks’ credit, they haven’t lost back-to-back games yet this postseason, so even if they lose Game 1 by 7+ points, it’s safe to expect them to make adjustments for Game 2.
Jayson Tatum has had 10+ rebounds in 11 of his 14 playoff games so far this year. He’s made it a point to crash the boards early and often in games. Even with Kristaps Porzingis back in action for Game 1 tonight, don’t expect him to be an active rebounder. Boston probably won’t want him spending too much time in the paint where he can re-injure his calf. Tatum will continue to carry the burden on the glass.
On the Dallas side, Luka Doncic is the best player in this series. I expect the Celtics to try to slow down Kyrie Irving and the other Dallas players. Even if Luka goes off for 35 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists (which would easily cover the 49.5 PRA total, if Boston is able to shut down his sidekicks, it should be able to win.

Mavericks vs Celtics Game 1 Injury Report
Team | Player | Injury | Status |
---|---|---|---|
Dallas Mavericks | Luka Doncic | Right Knee/Left Ankle | Probable |
Dallas Mavericks | Olivier-Maxence Prosper | Left Ankle | Questionable |
Both teams benefited from the time off between the end of the conference finals and tonight’s Game 1. The Celtics have a clean injury sheet. Big man Kristaps Porzingis will suit up for the first time in over a month. He hasn’t played since Game 4 of the first round against the Miami Heat, but his calf injury is reportedly better.
For the Mavericks, Luka Doncic continues to be listed on the injury report, but it would be utterly shocking if he didn’t play in Game 1. Olivier-Maxence Prosper is the only player who might not suit up, but he likely wouldn’t be part of the Dallas rotation in the Finals, anyway.
These teams are as close to fully healthy as possible for this series, so it should be a ton of fun to watch!

1. Luka Doncic Over Points: Luka Doncic has been a scoring machine for the Mavericks this season, averaging over 28 points per game. With his ability to score from anywhere on the court, taking the over on his points total is a solid pick for this game.
2. Jayson Tatum Over Rebounds: Jayson Tatum has been a force on the boards for the Celtics, averaging over 7 rebounds per game. With his size and athleticism, he should have no problem hitting the over on his rebound total in this game.
3. Total Points Over: Both the Mavericks and Celtics have potent offenses, ranking in the top half of the league in scoring. With both teams likely to push the pace and put up points in this game, taking the over on the total points scored is a smart pick.
4. Mavericks Moneyline: The Mavericks have been playing well down the stretch and have a strong chance of coming out on top in this game. Taking the Mavericks on the moneyline is a solid pick for those looking to bet on the outcome of the game.
5. Kemba Walker Over Assists: Kemba Walker has been a solid distributor for the Celtics this season, averaging over 4 assists per game. With his ability to create scoring opportunities for his teammates, taking the over on his assists total is a good pick for this game.
