They played one opponent in New York’s tier, and were crushed. Memphis blew them out by 17, winning the rebounding battle by 13.
That spells trouble for LeBron James and Co. against the Knicks. New York has won five straight, putting up 122, 143 and 143 points over their last three. They’re fresh off beating two of the West’s elite in the Nuggets and Grizzlies, and rank second in the NBA in Net Rating.
Karl-Anthony Towns is playing like an NBA MVP odds contender, while Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart are filling up the stat sheet. New York has covered in three straight, by an average of 19+ points, and are a different team at MSG. They rank fourth in Net Rating at home, while the Lakers Net Rating is 8 points worse as a visitor than in LA, and that’s with Davis healthy.

AD’s loss is going to be felt the hardest in the matchup with Towns. The 7-footer has been a stat stuffer this season, averaging a career-high 14 rebounds per game to go along with 3.5 assists.
