Against the odds, the injury-riddled Orlando Magic (19-13, 12-3 home, 18-13-1 ATS) continue to hold down a top-f9ur seed in the East, and it’s all thanks to their exceptional play on their home court. On Friday night, Orlando hosts the New York Knicks (20-10, 10-6 away, 15-14-1 ATS), the team that put an end to their perfect run at the Kia Center less than two weeks ago. With Paolo Banchero, Franz Wagner, and Mo Wagner all still out of the lineup for Orlando, Friday’s NBA odds favor the visiting Knicks by as many as seven points. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:10 pm ET.
New York Knicks vs Orlando Magic Predictions
The Knicks cruised to a 100-91 victory when these teams met on Dec. 15, taking a 10-point lead into halftime and never trailing by fewer than six in the second stanza. Jalen Brunson (24.5 PPG, 3.0 RPG, 7.6 APG) had a team-high 31 points as New York limited Orlando to just 41.9% from the floor and 30% from three.
Mo Wagner (12.9 PPG, 4.9 RPG, 1.4 APG) had a game-high 32 in a losing effort for Orlando, but he a season-ending ACL injury just two games later, joining his brother Franz (24.4 PPG, 5.6 RPG, 5.7 APG) and Paolo Banchero (29.0 PPG, 8.8 RPG, 5.6 APG) on Orlando’s IR.
Orlando, which started the season 10-0 at home, is now just 2-3 in its last five at the Kia Center. After falling to the Knicks, the Magic also lost to the West-leading OKC Thunder (105-99) on Dec. 19 and the Miami Heat (89-88) in a heartbreaker last night as Orlando let an 11-point halftime lead go to waste.
The Knicks have had an extra day of rest after edging out the Spurs 117-114 on Christmas Day, led by a season-high 41 points from Mikal Bridges, who had yet to hit 30 in a Knicks uniform prior to Wednesday’s monstrous performance.
But even with New York more rested and healthier, I am not prepared to lay this many points against the Magic on their home court. Even with all the significant injuries, depth remains a strength for Jamahl Mosley’s team, who had nine players log at least 12 minutes last night.
I expect another slow-paced, low-scoring game between these two, which will make it all the more difficult for the Knicks to distance the scrappy Magic on the road.
