Bronny James Struggles in First Taste of Summer League

Few, if any, Summer League debuts have had as much scrutiny as that of Bronny James on Saturday. Drafted 55th overall in the 2024 NBA Draft, LeBron’s first-born had just four points, two rebounds, and two assists on 2-of-9 shooting in 22 minutes of action in Saturday’s 108-94 loss to Sacramento. He was 0-of-3 from beyond the arc.

LA’s first-round pick, Dalton Knecht, also struggled, going just 3-of-12 with 12 points, though he did dishout four assists in just 26 minutes.

Undrafted Pitt alum Blake Hinson had a team-high 17 points off the bench.

Experienced Warriors Group Dominates Miami

With an unusually old roster for Summer League, Golden State decimated the Heat at home on Saturday by a 105-66 score. Ethan Thompson, a 25-year-old guard from Puerto Rico who played college at Oregon State, had a game-high 27 points in the win. Daeqwon Plowden, a 25-year-old wing who averaged 10.9 PPG and 4.3 RPG with the G-League’s Osceola Magic last year, added 26.

Golden State’s only pick from the 2024 draft, Dutch center Quinten Post, is not playing Summer League due to a leg injury.

Lakers vs Warriors Picks & Predictions for Summer League

There’s very little information do go on early in Summer League, but what we saw from each team on Saturday heavily favors the Warriors, not just winning, but routing the inexperienced Lakers. Bronny doesn’t look ready for primetime and Knecht, while undoubtedly a talented scorer off the bounce, is going to have to adjust to much better defending than he saw at Tennessee.

The Warriors have a host of players on their Summer League roster who have already been playing pro for a number of years. They’re bigger, stronger, and more experienced, and they clearly enjoyed the confines of the Chase Center on Saturday.

LAL vs GSW picks:

  • Warriors -5.5 (-110)
  • Over 184 (-110)
