  • With the top seed in the conference clinched, Cleveland is not dressing its optimal lineup

With an outside chance at catching the New York Knicks for the 3-seed in the East, the Indiana Pacers (48-31, 28-10 home) look to make it six straight wins as they host the Cleveland Cavaliers (63-16, 29-10 away). Cleveland, who’ve locked up the top seed in the conference, will prioritize health and recovery for its final three games, rather than try to tie the franchise record for wins in a season. That’s why they’re a hefty underdog in the NBA odds when this one tips off from Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis Thursday night, as part of a TNT doubleheader.

Cavaliers vs Pacers Odds

The Cavaliers are massive 9.5-point underdogs, and a distant +320 on the moneyline, compared to the Pacers, who are at -405. The total checks in at 229.5, with -110 odds on either side. These teams have alternated the Over/Under in five straight matchups.

As mentioned, Cleveland is ensuring optimal health and readiness for the postseason, sitting four of their five starters against the Pacers. This includes the starting backcourt of Donovan Mitchell (ankle) and Darius Garland (toe), while front court starters Evan Mobley (rest) and Max Strus (knee) will also sit.

Mitchell, Garland and Mobley are Cleveland’s top three scorers, and with Strus, they account for 72.3 points for a team that leads the league in scoring at 122.3 points per game. That’s nearly 60% of their scoring in streetwear.

The Pacers are fairly healthy, with reserve guard Ben Sheppard (toe) listed as questionable against the Cavaliers.

CLE vs IND Player Props

NBA player props from DraftKings on April 10.

With Cleveland’s roster in flux for this one, the books have held off of Cavaliers player props, only releasing Indiana player props late Wednesday night.

Pascal Siakam has the highest scoring prop for the Pacers at 18.5 points. After going Under that line in six straight starts, he’s bounced back to crack the 20-point plateau in back-to-back games.

Tyrese Haliburton and Myles Turner have the second-highest scoring total at 17.5 points, while Haliburton, third in the NBA in assists at 9.2 per game, has a dime line of 10.5 against the Cavaliers.

He had just six assists last game vs Washington, just the third time in the last 19 games Haliburton has had single-digit assists. He’s bested this line 12 times during this stretch.

Cleveland Cavaliers vs Indiana Pacers Picks

  • Cavaliers vs Pacers pick: Pacers -9.5 (-112)
  • Cavaliers vs Pacers prop bet: Haliburton Over 10.5 assists (-105)

The math is simple for the Pacers: if they win out and New York loses out, the Indiana moves to third in the conference, which, if everything else stayed to form, would mean a matchup with the Pistons in sixth instead of the Bucks in fifth.

Indiana has been getting it done at home of late, winning eight of its last nine at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, including Tuesday’s 104-98 win over the Washington Wizards. Their home slate has been relatively friendly, as their last four games have come against teams that all have records below .500.

Offensively, they are putting up 117.8 points per game, shooting 48.5% from the field and nearly 36% from distance during that stretch.

They’ve also found another gear on defense: just inside the Top 20 in points allowed overall at 115 per contest, the Pacers have cut that down nearly seven full points at home during this streak to 108.9.

However, it’s not always gone to plan, as Indiana is just 2-7-0 against the spread at home over those nine games. In every game they were favored by 10 points or more, they failed to cover the spread.

While that should give cause for concern, Cleveland is basically waving the white flag. But just for the end of the regular season, as this team means business, and is one of the favorites in the NBA Championship odds.

Their 135-113 win over Chicago locked up the top seed in the East but there’s no urgency in trying to match the LeBron-era 66-win team mark.

Head coach Kenny Atkinson will still seek execution and strong defense, and Cleveland’s depth has been one of its strengths all year, as the Cavs’ bench unit ranks sixth in the NBA in scoring this season at just under 40 points per game.

But this is not the team that won 63 games to date in the regular season, which led the league in scoring and was Top 2 in both field goal and 3-point shooting.

At 29-8, Cleveland is tied for the second-most road wins in the NBA. But on Thursday, the team that still has something to play for should take care of business.
